Commercial Estimator / Senior Estimator — Ground-Up Construction

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Compensation: $95,000–$150,000 annually, depending on experience and position level

About the Opportunity

An established commercial general contractor is seeking an Estimator or Senior Estimator with a diverse commercial construction background.

Ground-up commercial construction estimating experience is required. This role is suited to an estimator who can evaluate multiple trades, develop reliable budgets, and collaborate with project teams throughout preconstruction.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

• Prepare conceptual, design-development, and detailed estimates.

• Perform quantity takeoffs and analyze labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

• Solicit and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.

• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and constructability concerns.

• Evaluate value engineering alternatives and their cost implications.

• Maintain subcontractor relationships and historical cost information.

• Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients.

• Support bid submissions and project handoff.

• Senior-level candidates may also lead estimate reviews and mentor estimating staff.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated estimating experience on ground-up commercial projects.

• Diverse commercial project experience.

• Strong understanding of construction methods and subcontractor scopes.

• Experience with takeoffs, budgeting, bid leveling, and scope review.

• Ability to interpret construction documents.

• Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Excel.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
