Total Comfort Group is growing in the Mid-Atlantic and adding a Commercial HVAC expert who thrives on solving tough field problems across MD, DC, and VA. In this role, you’ll diagnose issues, tune performance, and restore comfort for customers who count on their systems working right—every time.
A day in this role
You start your day reviewing work orders on your tablet, then head to a customer site in DC to troubleshoot an RTU with intermittent control faults. By midday, you’ve performed a scheduled PM on a bank of air handlers and verified proper airflow. In the afternoon, you commission a replacement heat pump, confirm refrigerant charge, and document readings. You close out the day by explaining your findings, options, and next steps to the customer—and updating service reports accurately before heading home.
What you’ll handle
- End-to-end service on commercial HVAC equipment: troubleshoot, repair, and maintain systems to optimal performance.
- Preventive maintenance, inspections, and full system evaluations that prevent downtime.
- Hands-on work with RTUs, split and package systems, heat pumps, air handlers, exhaust fans, and make-up air units.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, refrigerant, airflow, and controls issues—including BAS/DDC—using meters and documentation.
- Read and apply blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and tech manuals to drive accurate fixes.
- Execute startups, testing, commissioning, and functional verification with thorough documentation.
- Clearly communicate deficiencies, repair recommendations, and maintenance priorities to customers and the team.
- Complete digital work orders and service notes precisely and on time.
- Work safely—follow company safety protocols, OSHA standards, and industry best practices.
- Support an on-call rotation.
What you bring
- 3+ years in commercial HVAC service (preferred).
- EPA Universal Certification (required).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Proven electrical and mechanical troubleshooting ability.
- Hands-on experience with RTUs, split systems, package units, heat pumps, air handlers, and ventilation equipment.
- Self-directed with strong time management across multiple service calls.
- Strong communicator with a customer-first mindset.
- Familiarity with BAS, DDC, and HVAC controls (preferred).
- HVAC-related licenses/certifications in MD, VA, or DC are a plus.
- Proficiency across HVAC/R systems, service/installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

- Hourly range: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, certifications, and technical depth.
