Commissioning Technician

Bemana is helping an industry-leading manufacturer of Distributed Infrastructure Systems to find a Commissioning & Pre-Testing Technician to join their growing team!

As a Commissioning & Pre-Testing Technician, you will be based full-time at the company's headquarters in Durham, NC. This role supports the company's "speed-to-market" strategy by performing pre-commissioning, factory acceptance testing, and control system vetting on custom-built distributed infrastructure equipment (generators, switchgear, PLCs, and microgrid skids) prior to field shipment.

This is a locally based role in Durham, NC and will require some travel (~25%) for occasional site hand-off visits and onsite testing.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct pre-commissioning, functional testing, and customer witness testing on manufactured switchgear, generator sets, and integrated control skids within the Durham facility.
• Program, upload, and edit settings files for PLCs, generator controllers, and protective relays before units leave the campus.
  
• Collaborate directly with factory design engineers and manufacturing teams to identify and resolve wiring, control, or functional issues early in the build cycle.
  
• Redline as-shipped schematics, update settings documentation, and assist with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  
• Develop written pre-testing and factory acceptance testing procedures to ensure speed-to-market quality standards are maintained.
• Occasionally travel to field sites during initial project rollouts to ensure smooth hand-offs from factory pre-testing to site commissioning.
  

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of commercial or industrial experience working on generators, ATS, switchgear, and paralleling equipment.
• Proven hands-on experience programming and making edits to PLCs, generator controllers and protective relays.
• Proficient understanding of AC/DC Electrical Theory and the ability to read and troubleshoot complex electrical schematics.
• Familiarity with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly desirable (bonus for Austin project alignment).
• Prior formal equipment commissioning experience is a plus.
• NFPA 70 Arc Flash Certification or OSHA safety credentials preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interfacing with design engineers, project managers, and client representatives.
• Ability to lift/move materials up to 40 lbs, work in outdoor/indoor industrial environments around high-voltage equipment and travel 75%–90%.
