    Job Description

Are you skilled at helping customers address their program requirements? Do you want to learn the very latest in cloud web services technologies and securely apply them to some of the most interesting computing workloads in the world? At AWS, we are hiring a senior level Communications Security (COMSEC) Manager to own the strategy, direction and continued growth of the US ADC Security COMSEC Program. You will lead a team of COMSEC officers located across the United States. You will build and maintain senior-level relationships with multiple mission partners and represent AWS on COMSEC matters with government customers and vendors. This role requires travel up to 20% of the time.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Define and own the multi-year vision, strategy and roadmap for the COMSEC Program, in line with US ADC Security and AWS business goals.
    • Design and grow the team structure, including hiring and developing COMSEC officers and future leaders, to scale with new regions, sites and mission partner requirements.
    • Anticipate program-level risks across multiple sites and accounts. Set mitigation strategies with senior leadership, customers and stakeholders, and escalate when needed.
    • Set and own the operating mechanisms for the program: SLAs, metrics, audits and inspection readiness. Make sure results are delivered consistently across all COMSEC accounts and subaccounts.
    • Act as the primary COMSEC advisor to senior leadership and mission partners on current and future COMSEC postures for all AWS locations.
    • Lead security reviews of proposed new programs that need COMSEC support. Make the decisions that set the program"s security direction.
    • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with government customers, controlling authorities and COMSEC vendors. Influence how COMSEC standards and policies are applied in a cloud environment.
    • Create and standardize COMSEC policies, procedures and training that other teams across the organization can adopt.
    • Partner across functions with information security, engineering, physical security and program teams to deliver integrated security outcomes.
    • Drive constructive discussions and dive deep into the details. Seek diverse points of view and build that feedback into org-wide decisions.

    A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing COMSEC program metrics across all AWS sites and accounts, looking for trends that need attention before they turn into problems. Next, you meet with information security, physical security and engineering partners to align the COMSEC roadmap with upcoming site and mission partner requirements. You spend time coaching your COMSEC officers and future leaders in one-on-one sessions, helping them build their skills and take on more ownership. Later, you lead a program review with senior leadership, presenting data-driven insights on program health, inspection readiness and progress toward strategic goals. You close the day by meeting with a government customer or COMSEC vendor to review an emerging policy or program risk, then set the mitigation approach for your team to carry out.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
