Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to provide critical support to the healthcare provider team and ensure the smooth operation of LMPHW clinics. In this role, individuals will complete routine administrative tasks, assist with patient examinations, complete delegated components of patient care, maintain adequate medical records and deliver compassionate care to all patients.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Answers phone calls, provides information, takes messages, and routes calls.

  • Participates in home visits and community-based outreach activities to support TB treatment adherence, contact investigations, and continuity of care.

  • Obtains patient vital signs to include height and weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure respiratory rate, and other clinical measurements.

  • Documents all vital signs in the EHR system as appropriate and reports significant variances to the provider.

  • Escorts patients to clinical examination rooms and assists patients with preparing for examinations, including donning gowns or other appropriate attire, and assists lifting or position patients for exams and treatments.

  • Administers treatment as delegated by providers in accordance with training/experience.

  • Operates, cleans, sterilizes, calibrates and performs preventive maintenance, and/or quality control testing on laboratory equipment and testing instruments including point of care tests and documents as appropriate for quality control.

  • Obtains patient specimens including urine, capillary blood, venous blood, and sputum as ordered by the healthcare provider or by standing order.

  • Labels and packages specimens for transport to designated lab. May assist with specimen preparation following STI testing by provider.

  • Registers patients, records financial and medical information in the EHR as appropriate, obtains consent for treatment, screens for program eligibility, schedules appointments, processes client records, and maintains patient flow during clinical sessions.

  • Operates a computer terminal to enter, store and retrieve information; compiles records; and reports routine statistical information.

  • Calculates figures and totals; posts information on forms and records; computes and collects patients' service fees; and reconciles cash collections with receipt book.

  • Requisitions, controls and monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials and maintains files, records and laboratory logs.

  • Adheres to local health department procedures, HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control requirements.

  • Provides support and services across multiple locations, include non-Metro sites.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Certificate of completion from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the American Medical Technologists, the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education School.

OR

  • Completion of a Medical Services training program of the United States Armed Forces.

OR

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician from a nationally accredited organization (such as National Performance Specialists, National Healthcare Association, National Phlebotomy Association, etc.).

OR

  • Certification from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or by the Commission on Allied Health Education Programs.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment.

  • Requires flexibility to work varied schedules, which may include changes in work hours or work location, in accordance with operational needs.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

  • Utilizes personal vehicle or LMPHW vehicle (pending vehicle availability) for work related travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
