Construction Foreman Job Description

Job Title: Construction Foreman

Position Summary
The Construction Foreman is responsible for supervising daily field operations on commercial, industrial, civil, or residential construction projects. This role manages field crews, coordinates subcontractors, ensures work is completed safely and according to plans and specifications, and helps keep projects on schedule and within budget. The Foreman serves as the primary point of contact between the Superintendent and field personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead construction crews on a daily basis.
  • Coordinate work activities with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor crew productivity.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
  • Maintain a safe jobsite by enforcing OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Monitor project progress and report updates, delays, or issues to management.
  • Schedule equipment, materials, and labor to support project milestones.
  • Inspect completed work and identify items requiring correction.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, timecards, and production records.
  • Coordinate inspections and ensure compliance with local regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or construction-related education preferred.
  • 5+ years of construction experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience managing multiple trades and subcontractors.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate or oversee construction equipment and tools.
