We are seeking a working Construction Foreman to lead a team of carpenters on custom homes and other general construction projects. You will work alongside your crew, organize daily assignments, and turn project plans into quality work. This role is suited to an experienced carpenter who can lead by example, solve field problems, and keep work moving with minimal supervision.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on field position requiring work outdoors in changing weather, climbing ladders and scaffolds, working overhead, and frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting or moving materials weighing 50 pounds or more. Candidates must be able to perform the essential duties safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and work alongside carpenters and other field employees on custom homes, renovations, additions, and other general construction projects.
- Assign daily work, explain expectations, and check progress to keep the crew productive and on schedule.
- Perform and oversee layout, framing, blocking, exterior and interior trim, door and window installation, and other rough and finish carpentry.
- Read plans, specifications, and measurements; confirm dimensions and identify conflicts before work proceeds.
- Work directly with subcontractors and other trades on site to coordinate daily activities, work areas, and access so work proceeds in the proper sequence.
- Identify trade conflicts, confirm readiness for the next phase, and coordinate solutions with the superintendent to prevent delays and rework.
- Plan ahead for materials, tools, and equipment; track usage and help prevent waste and unnecessary downtime.
- Inspect workmanship, correct deficiencies, and complete punch-list items to meet project expectations.
- Maintain a safe, orderly job site; reinforce safe work practices and proper use of tools, ladders, and equipment.
- Protect existing finishes and customer property during renovation work; treat homeowners and occupants professionally.
- Train crew members and communicate manpower needs, progress, delays, and field issues to the superintendent.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 4 years of residential and/or commercial construction experience, including hands-on carpentry and prior crew leadership.
- Experience building custom homes and working on a variety of general construction projects.
- Strong rough and finish carpentry skills, with the ability to lay out work and interpret construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of construction sequencing and how carpentry coordinates with concrete, roofing, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work.
- Ability to lead a crew respectfully, give clear instructions, address problems, and maintain quality without constant supervision.
- Dependable attendance, strong communication skills, and the ability to report to assigned job sites.
- High school diploma or GED; ability to pass required drug screening and background checks.
