Construction Laborer
Location: Southern California (LA/OC/IE)
Full-Time | Field Position
Pay: $20 to $24 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Build Specialized Systems on Active Construction Sites
Advanced Construction Technologies (ACT) is a specialty contractor that installs methane gas and soil vapor mitigation systems for commercial and residential construction projects.
For more than 20 years, ACT has supported construction projects across the country with specialized systems designed to address methane gas and soil vapor conditions. We are a growing, close-knit company that values dependable work, job-site safety, and the people who contribute to our success.
We are seeking a Construction Laborer to join our Southern California field team. This is a hands-on position involving excavation, material placement, membrane installation, piping, and other physical work on active construction sites.
The right candidate will have previous construction-site experience, a strong work ethic, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel when projects require it.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of methane gas and soil vapor mitigation systems
- Install sub-slab venting systems and vertical vent risers
- Place and spread sand, gravel, and rock in designated work areas
- Dig trenches using shovels or construction equipment
- Install heat-welded and spray-applied vapor barriers
- Roll out, position, and secure large sheets of plastic membrane
- Assemble and place plastic piping at ground level
- Load, unload, carry, and organize tools, equipment, and construction materials
- Follow project plans, supervisor instructions, and established installation procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all company, job-site, and regulatory health and safety requirements
- Attend company-provided training when required
- Perform other related field duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of experience working on commercial or residential construction sites as a laborer, technician, foreman, or in a comparable hands-on role
- Familiarity with construction tools, materials, and job-site expectations
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and professional integrity
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Reliable transportation to job sites throughout the Southern California Area
- Ability to commute to Southern California Area (LA/OC/IE)
- Willingness to travel and remain out of town when required, including occasional out-of-state assignments
- Availability to work the standard Monday through Friday schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Flexibility to work occasional nights or weekends when project schedules require it
- Ability to successfully complete a drug screening and background check
- Authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waterproofing, concrete, roofing, or a related construction trade
- Experience operating equipment such as a backhoe, skid steer, excavator, or forklift
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills
Physical and Work Requirements
This is a physically demanding field position performed primarily outdoors on active construction sites. Responsibilities regularly include:
- Lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 100 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Working outdoors in hot weather and changing job-site conditions
- Working on hands and knees for extended periods
- Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, digging, and sustained physical activity
- Walking and working on uneven terrain
- Traveling regularly between project locations
- Performing work safely around construction equipment, materials, and other trades
Employees must provide and maintain the following personal protective equipment:
- Hard hat
- Steel-toed work boots
- Safety glasses
- Safety vest
- Work gloves
- Long pants
- Plain T-shirt
Additional project-specific safety equipment will be addressed according to company and job-site requirements.
