Crosscheck Inspection Services, a NYC Department of Buildings (DOB)–certified Special Inspection and Material Testing Agency, is seeking a part-time team member to provide construction materials pickup, laboratory sample handling, and field support for our inspection and materials testing operations.
The primary responsibility of this position is traveling to construction sites, primarily throughout New York City, to pick up concrete test cylinders and other construction material samples and return them to our laboratory in New Hyde Park, NY. The position also includes unloading, processing, and storing samples at the laboratory, as well as occasional drop-offs of equipment, materials, or supplies at project sites. Occasional travel to Long Island and the Hudson Valley may also be required.
This is a hands-on position involving driving, physical material handling, and laboratory work. Employees are expected to independently perform their assigned sample pickup and laboratory handling duties, rather than rely on laboratory personnel for routine assistance.
This is primarily a weekday morning/early afternoon position. Start times will typically be between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., with the workday generally ending around 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., depending on the day's schedule and assigned route. Occasional weekend availability may also be required. Hours may vary from week to week.
For the right candidate, there may be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and grow into other field inspection or testing roles.
Responsibilities:
Field Pickup & Transportation:
- Travel to construction sites, primarily throughout NYC, to pick up concrete test cylinders and other material samples and return them to our New Hyde Park laboratory.
- Pick up or drop off equipment, materials, and supplies at project sites as needed.
- Safely handle, load, transport, and unload concrete cylinders, samples, equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate daily pickups, drop-offs, and other field needs with inspectors, project teams, contractors, and laboratory personnel.
- Use Crosscheck's custom Salesforce mobile application to record and confirm cylinders and samples when picked up at construction sites and when returned to the laboratory.
- Occasionally travel to project sites on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley.
Laboratory & Operational Support:
- Independently unload and transport collected cylinders and samples into our laboratory, which is located in the basement of our New Hyde Park facility.
- Strip concrete test cylinders from their molds and place the cylinders into the designated curing tanks, following laboratory procedures and training.
- Ensure samples are properly identified, accounted for, and stored in their designated locations.
- Maintain accurate pickup and drop-off records using Crosscheck's Salesforce application.
- Perform routine sample handling and laboratory support tasks without the expectation of regular assistance from laboratory personnel.
- Assist laboratory staff and field teams with other related tasks as needed.
Requirements:
- Valid NYS Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable driving throughout NYC and surrounding areas and traveling between multiple project sites.
- Ability to safely lift and carry at least 40 pounds on a regular basis, including loading and unloading samples and transporting them into the basement laboratory.
- Ability and willingness to perform hands-on laboratory tasks, including stripping concrete cylinders and placing them into curing tanks.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned pickup, unloading, and sample-handling responsibilities.
- Comfortable using a smartphone and mobile application to accurately track samples.
- Dependable and able to manage a daily schedule of pickups, drop-offs, and laboratory assignments.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and good communication skills.
- Ability to work occasional weekends when project needs require.
- Willingness to use both company vehicles and a personal vehicle when necessary.
- Employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a background check, DMV record review, and drug screening.
Preferred:
- Construction-site, field support, materials handling, delivery, or similar experience.
- Familiarity with NYC construction sites and travel throughout the five boroughs.
- Experience with basic laboratory or construction materials handling.
- Interest in learning about concrete testing and special inspection work.
