Construction Program Training Manager

As our operations continue to grow, effective training, consistent field practices, and strong program execution are essential to maintaining safety, quality, productivity, and operational excellence.

We are seeking an experienced Construction Program Training Manager to develop, implement, and oversee training programs that support our field operations and workforce.

Position Summary

The Construction Program Training Manager will lead the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of training programs that support field operations, construction teams, and organizational performance. This role will serve as a critical link between field experience and organizational training, ensuring employees have the knowledge, skills, resources, and practical understanding needed to execute work safely, efficiently, and consistently.

 

 

This position will work closely with construction leadership, field management, operations, safety, and other functional leaders to identify training needs and translate field requirements into practical, effective learning programs. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of construction operations and field environments, combined with the ability to develop and deliver professional training programs.

The Construction Program Training Manager will help establish a more structured and sustainable approach to field training while supporting the organization's broader learning and development strategy.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Construction & Field Training

• Develop, implement, and manage training programs designed specifically for construction and field personnel.
• Partner with field leadership to identify knowledge, skill, and performance gaps and develop appropriate training solutions.
• Create practical, field-focused training that can be applied directly to day-to-day construction activities.
• Support onboarding and development programs for new field employees, supervisors, foremen, and other construction personnel.
• Develop training pathways based on role, experience level, and career progression.
• Coordinate hands-on, classroom, virtual, and on-the-job training opportunities.
• Help establish consistent training expectations and standards across field operations.
• Incorporate lessons learned, field experiences, project outcomes, and emerging best practices into training programs.

Program Development & Management

• Build and maintain a comprehensive construction training curriculum aligned with organizational priorities and operational needs.
• Develop training materials, facilitator guides, job aids, assessments, and other learning resources.
• Establish processes for evaluating training effectiveness and measuring knowledge retention and field application.
• Maintain training schedules, completion records, certifications, and other program documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing training programs and eliminate gaps or duplication.
• Work with subject-matter experts to capture and translate organizational knowledge into repeatable training.
• Assist in developing competency frameworks and career development pathways for construction roles.

Field Engagement

• Spend time in the field and on project sites to understand operational challenges and training needs firsthand.
• Build strong relationships with project managers, superintendents, foremen, field leaders, and craft personnel.
• Observe work practices and gather feedback to identify opportunities for improved performance.
• Act as a resource to field leadership when training or employee development needs arise.
• Help connect classroom learning with actual field expectations and responsibilities.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional development throughout field operations.

Collaboration

• Partner with Human Resources and organizational learning leaders to align construction training with broader company initiatives.
• Collaborate with Safety, Quality, Operations, and other departments to incorporate applicable requirements into field training.
• Work with experienced field personnel and subject-matter experts to develop relevant and credible training content.
• Support leadership in identifying future workforce and leadership development needs.
• Help establish a consistent approach to knowledge transfer and succession development within construction operations.

Success in this position will be demonstrated by the ability to build a training function that field personnel view as practical, credible, accessible, and valuable.

The successful candidate will not simply deliver training. They will understand the work, build relationships with the people performing it, identify where additional knowledge or capability is needed, and develop programs that improve performance in the field.

Work Environment

This position will operate across both office and field environments. Regular interaction with construction project teams and periodic travel to project sites should be expected.

The role requires an individual who is comfortable engaging directly with field personnel, observing construction operations, and adapting training approaches to meet the realities of active project environments.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Education, Organizational Development, Business, or a related field; equivalent construction experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of experience in construction, field operations, construction management, training, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated understanding of construction field operations and the challenges faced by field personnel.
• Experience developing, coordinating, or delivering training programs.
• Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of an organization.
• Ability to translate complex information into practical, understandable training.
• Willingness and ability to spend meaningful time in field/project environments.

Preferred

• Experience as a superintendent, project manager, foreman, field leader, construction manager, or similar construction role.
• Experience developing training programs for construction or industrial environments.
• Experience with leadership development, competency programs, or career progression frameworks.
• Familiarity with learning management systems and digital training platforms.
• Experience with adult learning principles and instructional design.
• Experience measuring training effectiveness and program outcomes.
