Construction Project Coordinator - Structural Steel

Pay: $27-$32/hour
ABOUT US
Paradigm Ironworks, a division of Alderette Designs, Inc., is a growing Riverside-based structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabricator serving commercial and public construction projects in Southern California.
We seek a detail-oriented Construction Project Coordinator who understands construction drawings, document control, RFIs, and submittals. This is not an entry-level role. Structural steel experience is preferred, but we will train the right candidate on steel-specific procedures. The role offers an opportunity to grow into greater project management responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Setup & Document Control
- Coordinate new jobs after award: project number, scope, contract documents, contacts, schedules, and required records.
- Maintain current drawings, specifications, revisions, addenda, correspondence, logs, and organized project files.
- Ensure approved documents reach detailing, shop, and field teams; coordinate administrative requirements with accounting.
Detailing, Drawings & Submittals
- Obtain and track detailing quotes, schedules, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with detailers, customers, operations, and shop personnel.
- Review drawings for completeness and obvious discrepancies; coordinate internal review, submissions, approvals, and resubmittals.
RFIs & Change Orders
- Draft and track RFIs for management review; maintain response and revision logs.
- Identify potential scope changes and additional work; collect supporting records and maintain change-order logs, pricing requests, and approval status.
- Confirm changes are authorized before communicating releases to production.
Materials & Purchasing
- Assist with material lists, takeoffs, and preliminary nesting.
- Request supplier quotes; compare pricing, available stock lengths, lead times, and processing options.
- Prepare recommendations for approval; track orders, deliveries, and receiving records.
Shop, Field & Project Coordination
- Coordinate approved drawing releases, fabrication, shipments, and field activities.
- Communicate with general contractors, suppliers, shop supervisors, and field teams.
- Track job status, deadlines, open items, and risks; provide regular progress reports and action logs.
Cost, Billing & Closeout
- Compare estimated versus actual shop and field labor hours and track material commitments and approved changes.
- Flag potential overruns and risks to project profitability for management review.
- Support progress billing with accounting; coordinate punch lists, warranties, and closeout documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years of commercial construction coordination, project administration, or document control experience.
- Ability to read architectural and structural drawings and identify revisions or missing information.
- Working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and construction document tracking.
- Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam Revu or comparable PDF markup software.
- Strong communication, organization, accuracy, initiative, and follow-through.
PREFERRED
- Structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or specialty subcontractor experience.
- Exposure to detailing, fabrication, purchasing, installation, job-cost tracking, or project software.
PAY, BENEFITS & GROWTH
$27-$32/hour starting pay, based on demonstrated skills and relevant experience. Medical coverage, 401(k) with company matching, paid time off, and training opportunities, subject to eligibility. Opportunity for increased responsibility as skills and company needs grow.
