Construction Services Project Manager

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Services Project Manager to oversee geotechnical earthwork, special inspections, and construction materials testing (CMT) projects. This role is responsible for managing project budgets, coordinating field and laboratory operations, maintaining strong client relationships, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction materials testing and inspection, with demonstrated experience managing projects, coordinating field personnel, preparing proposals, and supporting successful project execution from initial planning through completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Management: Manage construction materials testing, special inspection, and geotechnical earthwork projects from initiation through completion, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget expectations are met.

• Budget and Financial Oversight: Monitor project budgets, track costs, evaluate project performance, and help maintain profitability.

• Client Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, engineers, architects, and other design professionals to coordinate project requirements and resolve concerns.

• Field Operations: Coordinate and oversee field activities, including the scheduling and supervision of field technicians and special inspectors.

• Site Visits and Quality Control: Visit active project sites to evaluate work in progress, monitor service quality, and ensure testing and inspection activities align with project specifications.

• Documentation and Reporting: Review project documentation, field reports, testing results, inspection records, and other project-related paperwork for accuracy and completeness.

• Proposal Development: Assist with preparing project proposals, estimating service requirements, and performing materials quantity take-offs.

• Problem Resolution: Identify and troubleshoot project-related issues, coordinate corrective actions, and communicate solutions to clients and internal teams.

• Safety and Compliance: Promote safe work practices and ensure project activities comply with applicable standards, codes, specifications, and company procedures.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction materials testing, special inspections, or a closely related field.

• Minimum of 2 years of project management experience within construction materials testing and inspection services.

• Experience managing project budgets, coordinating field personnel, and maintaining client relationships.

• Experience preparing proposals, including materials quantity take-offs and estimating project service needs.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, engineers, and internal teams.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

• Ability to visit active construction sites as needed to oversee project activities and support field operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with local construction practices, applicable building codes, and regional testing and inspection requirements.

• Experience with geotechnical earthwork observation, special inspections, and construction materials testing programs.

• Established relationships with local contractors, engineering firms, and other construction industry professionals.

Important Role Clarification

This is a construction services and materials testing project management position, not a general construction management role. The focus is on coordinating and managing geotechnical services, construction materials testing, special inspections, field personnel, project budgets, and client deliverables rather than directly managing overall construction operations or serving as a general contractor.
