Construction Superintendent – Commercial Tenant Improvement
RPD | South Hackensack, NJ | Contract (6–9 months)
About the Role
RPD is looking for a hands-on Superintendent to step into a commercial tenant improvement project already underway in South Hackensack. You’ll join a lean project team of 3–4 people, which means you’ll need to get up to speed quickly, take ownership of the field, and carry the job through to turnover. We want someone who can pick up a project mid-stream, keep it on budget and on schedule, and represent RPD well in front of owners, trades, and design teams.

What You’ll Do
Lead the site
- Take over Construction Manager and Superintendent duties on an active project and see it through closeout
- Quickly assess current site conditions, schedule, open items, and subcontractor status
- Act as the go-to point of contact for subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and the owner
- Step in to resolve conflicts between the owner, trades, and subs before they slow the job down
- Coordinate site safety documentation alongside the project team
Plan and buy out the work
- Review and support existing cost estimates, and help plan any remaining or added scope
- Define scopes of work for any subcontractor packages still to be awarded
- Assist with bidding, sub outreach, and proposal prep as needed
- Maintain the Project Buy-Out Summary
Keep the project on track
- Review drawings, specifications, and technical documents, and apply relevant building codes
- Track progress, costs, and schedule, and keep project records current
- Answer scope and timing questions from the team and the owner
- Run and document weekly owner meetings, including decisions made
Manage the paperwork that keeps jobs moving
- Generate and track RFIs from the field to the architect/engineer of record
- Submit and follow submittals from subs through A/E approval
- Handle change orders from creation through negotiation
- Keep all project documentation organized in Procore and Dropbox
- Support the accounting team with monthly sub billings and pay applications
- Help bring the project to a clean closeout
What You Bring
- 5+ years in commercial tenant improvement construction (residential, civil, and mega-project backgrounds are not a match for this role)
- 5+ years as a Site Superintendent, Site Project Manager, or on-site Owner’s Rep, with construction management experience
- A track record of taking spaces from greenfield/white box to turnkey
- Experience joining projects already in progress and getting them back on track or keeping them moving
- Proven ability to deliver on budget and on schedule
- Strong leadership and people skills
- Comfort with Procore, Dropbox, and general project software
- Composure when things go sideways, and the instinct to see problems coming
Project Details
- Duration: Approximately 6–9 months
