Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Location: Middlesex County, NJ
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $120,000-$150,000 (Depending on experience)
Job Summary:Bespoke Contracting Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day field operations of a commercial self-storage construction project in Middlesex County, New Jersey.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ground-up commercial construction, with direct experience in self-storage facilities. This individual will be responsible for coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, overseeing site safety, ensuring quality workmanship, and working closely with the Project Manager to deliver the project on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilites:
Site Management & Supervision- Oversee all daily construction activities and field operations.
- Coordinate, schedule, and supervise subcontractors and vendors to maintain project progress.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient job site.
- Identify and resolve field issues to minimize delays and disruptions.
Scheduling & Project Coordination- Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure work is completed according to the project schedule.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, manpower, and site logistics.
- Anticipate potential scheduling conflicts and proactively address construction delays.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate progress, concerns, and upcoming activities.
Safety & Quality Control- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Conduct regular site safety meetings and inspections.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure construction meets applicable codes, plans, and specifications.
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective work with subcontractors.
- Ensure proper site housekeeping and compliance with safety requirements.
Inspections & Project Closeout- Coordinate required inspections with local building officials and third-party inspectors.
- Ensure work is ready for inspection and address any deficiencies promptly.
- Manage punch list activities and coordinate completion of outstanding work.
- Assist with final inspections, certificate of occupancy requirements, and project closeout.
Documentation & Reporting- Maintain accurate daily construction reports, including manpower, work performed, deliveries, inspections, and site conditions.
- Document project progress, delays, deficiencies, and other significant field activities.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, and change orders.
- Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding schedule, subcontractor performance, and project status.
Qualifications- Previous self-storage construction experience is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or in a similar field supervisory role.
- Strong background in ground-up commercial construction.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple subcontractors and coordinate construction activities.
- Thorough understanding of construction methods, sequencing, building codes, and safety requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, anticipate issues, and maintain project schedules.
- Proficiency with construction management software and daily reporting tools.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
EducationBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent hands-on construction experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on-site in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and navigate active construction areas.
- Ability to perform regular field inspections throughout the workday.
