This role requires working from our Durham office three days each week, with two remote days. Candidates must be based in the Raleigh-Durham area and able to meet this schedule.
About the role
We are looking for a PR professional and strong writer who can turn original research, expert perspectives, and company stories into earned media coverage, citations, and relevant backlinks across AAE Intelligence, Speaker Search, and All American Speakers.
Working with our Head of Marketing, you will identify newsworthy angles, build relationships with journalists and editors, pitch stories and contributed articles, and follow through to publication. Your primary focus will be earning relevant coverage and extending the reach of our expertise. You will also create useful content for our websites, email, and social channels.
What you will do
- Develop and carry out targeted media outreach. Research outlets and reporters, tailor pitches to their audiences, manage follow-up, and coordinate interviews and contributed articles. Pursue relevant business, industry, and national publications.
- For AAE Intelligence, work with our research and data team to turn original findings into accessible reports, articles, and commentary. Identify the findings most likely to interest journalists and earn coverage, citations, and links to the underlying research.
- For Speaker Search, create and promote buying guides and educational articles that help event planners discover and evaluate speakers. Seek editorial opportunities that bring useful resources to relevant audiences.
- For All American Speakers, develop client success stories, company news, and workplace award submissions. Find timely opportunities to share our expertise, service, and culture.
- Interview executives and internal experts, prepare them for media opportunities, and develop thought leadership and contributed articles in their voices.
- Maintain a coordinated editorial and outreach calendar across the three brands. Track pitches, responses, publication opportunities, and deadlines with priorities set alongside the Head of Marketing.
- Repurpose content across websites, email, and social channels. Collaborate with our SEO & PPC Specialist to connect useful content and relevant media coverage with search visibility.
- Measure the value of coverage through audience relevance, message accuracy, citations, backlinks, referral traffic, and other available outcomes. Use the results to improve future outreach.
What you will bring
- At least two years of relevant experience in public relations, media relations, research communications, content marketing, journalism, or a related field, including hands-on experience pitching and securing external coverage or contributed articles.
- Examples of placements you personally helped secure, with a clear explanation of your role, why the story fit the outlet, and what resulted. You can distinguish editorial coverage from sponsored content and syndication.
- Sound news judgment and the ability to turn research, data, or an expert perspective into a timely story for a specific audience.
- Excellent writing and editing skills. Your work makes complex subjects clear, uses sources accurately, and adapts to the needs of journalists, business readers, and event planners.
- The ability to research journalists and editors, build new relationships, write concise pitches, and follow up thoughtfully. Existing relevant media relationships are a plus.
- An understanding of how editorial coverage, citations, and relevant backlinks can support awareness, referral traffic, and search visibility, and the ability to collaborate with our SEO & PPC Specialist.
- Strong organization, curiosity, and follow-through. You can manage several projects, work with subject-matter experts, and keep details and deadlines under control.
Experience with executive ghostwriting, customer stories, original research, or the events and professional speaking industry is a plus.
What success looks like
You establish a steady flow of well-targeted pitches and publication opportunities, earn coverage that reaches relevant audiences, and produce credible content that journalists and readers find useful. You can explain which efforts led to coverage, citations, and backlinks, what we learned from the results, and where to focus next.
