JOB TITLE: Control Systems Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Theoris Services is assisting our client in their search for a Control Systems Engineer to join their Information Technology team. This individual will be responsible for the development, implementation, and support of plant-wide control systems and automation solutions. The Control Systems Engineer will design and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, and database-driven applications that support manufacturing operations, production tracking, equipment integration, and plant efficiency. This role works closely with engineering and maintenance teams to support existing systems while implementing new automation technologies across the facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement plant control systems supporting unit routing, production tracking, visual displays, downtime tracking, paint booth job stack data, and IDEM data management.
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs including Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Mitsubishi, AutomationDirect, Omron, Toshiba, Aromat, and other industrial control platforms.
- Develop and maintain HMI and SCADA applications, including iFIX programming.
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases supporting vehicle tracking, employee tracking, production data, and evacuation procedures.
- Develop custom web interfaces and shop floor applications utilizing VB.NET, Visual Basic, VBA, ASP, HTML, C, C++, and Java.
- Create custom Visual Basic applications to support Maintenance teams utilizing iFIX.
- Support the installation, startup, and integration of new manufacturing equipment and automated production lines.
- Train maintenance and engineering personnel on the use of iFIX and other control system applications.
- Troubleshoot automation, controls, and manufacturing system issues to minimize downtime and improve production efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and maintenance teams to develop innovative automation solutions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC systems, including one or more of the following:
- Allen Bradley
- Modicon
- GE Fanuc
- AutomationDirect
- Mitsubishi
- Omron
- Toshiba
- Aromat
- Experience with HMI and SCADA programming.
- Strong experience with SQL Server and database integrations.
- Proficiency with programming languages including .NET, VB.NET, Visual Basic, VBA, C++, Java, ASP, and HTML.
- Ability to manage projects from concept through implementation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to improve productivity, efficiency, and cost.
- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree plus four (4) or more years of relevant Controls Engineering experience.
- Experience designing and integrating DCS and SCADA systems for real-time manufacturing environments.
- Experience with iFIX HMI software.
- Experience with Google Workspace (G Suite).
- Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo systems, motion control, vision systems, RFID technologies, and industrial automation controls.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting experience.
