Controller

Kforce has a client in Bronx, NY that is seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to lead its accounting function and oversee the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial operations. This is a key leadership role partnering closely with the CFO and executive team to strengthen financial reporting, enhance internal controls, and support strategic business decisions. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, promoting accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Establish clear goals and develop team capabilities to support business growth
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
• Deliver financial reporting, variance analysis, and actionable insights to executive leadership
• Maintain consistent accounting policies, procedures, and reporting standards
• Partner with the CFO and cross-functional leaders to support business performance and strategic decision-making
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting, providing analysis and recommendations to improve margins and operational efficiency
• Translate financial results into meaningful insights for business stakeholders
• Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Oversee audit preparation and address control or process improvement opportunities
• Oversee the optimization and ongoing management of ERP and financial systems
• Implement scalable processes that improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency
• Manage relationships with external auditors and tax advisors
• Oversee corporate, sales, and use tax processes, ensuring accurate and timely filings

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred
• 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or comparable leadership role
• Experience in a high-growth, operationally complex environment; Backgrounds in e-commerce, retail, consumer products, supply chain, or private equity-backed businesses are preferred
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policies
• Experience with ERP and financial systems such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or comparable platforms
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
• Demonstrated success leading, developing, and scaling accounting teams
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and process improvement
