Controller Commercial Real Estate & Diversified Businesses
A privately held, diversified organization is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting across a portfolio of commercial real estate, development, operating, investment, and holding entities. This role will manage the monthly close, financial reporting, multi-entity accounting, payroll, cash management, and accounting team while working closely with senior leadership.
Responsibilities:
Oversee full-cycle accounting and monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, fixed assets, and depreciation.
Prepare and review financial statements across multiple entities.
Manage multi-entity, partnership, intercompany, and related-party accounting.
Prepare and review bank, debt, escrow, reserve, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Handle commercial real estate accounting, including tenant activity, CAM, property taxes, insurance, CapEx, and debt.
Oversee accounting for operating companies, including revenue, AP/AR, equipment, and expenses.
Manage payroll processing, reconciliations, benefits, and payroll taxes.
Monitor cash activity and assist with cash forecasting and liquidity management.
Oversee AP/AR, vendor payments, collections, W-9s, and 1099 reporting.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Provide schedules and documentation for tax, audit, lender, and ownership reporting.
Supervise accounting staff and improve processes, controls, and systems.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory/management experience.
Strong multi-entity accounting experience is required.
Real estate / property management accounting experience is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
Hands-on payroll and reconciliation experience.
Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel.
Yardi Breeze or similar real estate accounting software preferred.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple entities and competing priorities.
Hands-on and detail-oriented.
