Controller 
National Contractors, Inc. | Full-Time | On-Site | $110,000-$120,000 yearly 


About the Position 


National Contractors is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting operations, lead a small team, and partner with local leadership and our corporate accounting team. 


This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who enjoys owning the books, improving processes, and building structure in a growing construction business.
 
What You’ll Do 


Accounting & Financial Operations 


  • Own month-end and year-end close, financial statements, general ledger reviews, and reconciliations. 
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. 
  • Analyze financial variances and communicate results to leadership. 
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. 
  • Prepare supporting documentation for audits, taxes, and corporate reporting. 
  • Lead a small accounting team to ensure accurate work and timely reporting. 
Project & Cost Accounting 


  • Prepare and review monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports to support accurate revenue recognition and margin analysis. 
  • Monitor job costs against estimates and flag potential overruns. 
  • Partner with Project Managers to review project profitability and resolve discrepancies. 
  • Oversee project billing and review commission calculations. 
Process Improvement & Financial Planning 


  • Improve accounting processes, resolve gaps in legacy records, and document standard procedures. 
  • Strengthen internal controls and align reporting with corporate accounting requirements. 
  • Support accounting system improvements and transitions. 
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting, review bank activity, and lead weekly cash flow forecasting. 
What We’re Looking For 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred; Finance degree with at least 21 accounting credit hours also considered. 
  • At least 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with construction or related industry experience preferred. 
  • Recent, hands-on ownership of month-end close and financial reporting. 
  • Working knowledge of WIP, job costing, and revenue recognition. 
  • Experience leading or guiding an accounting team. 
  • Strong accounting software and advanced Excel skills; QuickBooks or Sage experience is a plus. 
  • Ability to explain financial information clearly, work through imperfect data, and balance daily accounting tasks with process improvements.
