Position Summary

The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions while serving as a strategic business partner to operations and executive leadership. This position requires extensive experience in manufacturing accounting, cost accounting, inventory management, and financial controls within an aerospace, defense, or complex manufacturing environment.

The Controller will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain a strong system of internal controls, lead the financial close process, and provide meaningful financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. This position will also lead and develop an accounting team consisting of two professional and four clerical employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Cost Accounting.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee standard costing, product costing, inventory valuation, labor reporting, and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Analyze material, labor, overhead, and production variances while partnering with operations to improve profitability.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits and provide support to external auditors.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, financial models, and management reports.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax requirements.
  • Support ERP system optimization and continuous process improvements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and executive leadership to support operational and financial goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Minimum of three years of manufacturing accounting experience.
  • Strong cost accounting experience within an aerospace, defense, or complex manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, product costing, and manufacturing variances.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Epicor, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or a similar platform.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accounting experience within aerospace or defense manufacturing.
  • Government contract accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of FAR and DFARS requirements.
  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • Experience working in a Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.

    Compensation

    • Salary range: Approximately $160,000–$180,000 annually plus bonus
    • Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
