Lead Accounting for a Growing, Established Construction Organization

Our client is a highly respected and financially stable construction company with a long-standing presence in the Washington, DC market. With approximately $200M in annual revenue and significant recent growth, the organization is entering an exciting phase of expansion while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented culture.

Reporting to a senior finance executive, the Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, lead the monthly close process, and provide financial leadership across a complex portfolio of construction projects. Position Overview

The Controller will be responsible for managing the company's accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, overseeing construction accounting processes, and partnering with leadership to support the organization's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• 
  
• Oversee job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• 
  
• Review project financial performance and provide analysis to leadership
• 
  
• Manage accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and financial reporting
• 
  
• Monitor working capital, cash flow, and payment controls
• 
  
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
• 
  
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal control procedures
• 
  
• Partner with operations and project teams to support business objectives
• 
  
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial initiatives
• 
  
• Support external audits and other compliance requirements
• 
  

Qualifications

• 
  
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 
  
• CPA and/or MBA preferred
• 
  
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• 
  
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
• 
  
• Experience with WIP schedules, job costing, and revenue recognition
• 
  
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• 
  
• Demonstrated accuracy, consistency, and strong attention to detail
• 
  
• Professional demeanor with a proactive, hands-on approach
• 
  
• Experience with ERP systems; Sage Intacct experience is a plus
•
