This is an advanced, hands-on engineering position intended for an experienced automation professional capable of independently leading high-complexity projects, solving difficult multidisciplinary technical problems, mentoring other engineers, and providing technical leadership throughout project execution.

The Controls Engineer IV is expected to take ownership beyond individual programming assignments and consider the overall technical and execution success of the machine and project.

This position remains a hands-on engineering role and works closely with Controls Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Design, Machine Assembly, Applications, Project Management, customers, and other technical resources.

    TOP 5 RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Advanced Controls Architecture and Engineering

Develop advanced machine-control architectures and integration strategies involving PLC/PAC systems, robotics, vision, motion control, industrial networks, machine safety, data systems, and other automation technologies.

    2. Project-Level Technical Leadership

Provide hands-on technical leadership for large, complex, or technically high-risk automation projects from concept through customer acceptance.

    3. Advanced Troubleshooting and Project Recovery

Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and recovery efforts for projects experiencing significant technical, integration, or equipment-performance challenges.

    4. Technical Risk, Concepting, and Estimating

Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and support Applications and Project Management with automation concepts, feasibility reviews, technology selection, labor estimates, and technical-risk evaluation.

    5. Mentoring, Standards, and Technical Improvement

Mentor and develop Controls Engineers while contributing to programming standards, reusable code, commissioning practices, engineering tools, and improvements that strengthen project execution.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead controls activities during machine runoff, installation, commissioning, and customer acceptance.

    • Professionally represent Alliance Automation during technically challenging customer interactions.

    • Travel to customer facilities for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, training, and production support.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Engineering or technical degree, related technical education, or equivalent technical education and work experience.

    • Approximately 8 or more years of controls engineering or industrial automation experience preferred, or equivalent demonstrated capability.

    • Expert or advanced capability with at least one major PLC/PAC platform.

    • Advanced experience with industrial automation and machine-control architecture.
