Conversational AI Experience Designer

We re looking for a Conversation Designer to help shape AI assistant experiences across chat and voice. In this role, you ll design how users interact with the agent across complex workflows, helping ensure those experiences are clear, effective, and trustworthy.
This role goes beyond writing prompts or polishing flows. You ll help influence which problems are most important to solve, shape experience-led recommendations with Product and Engineering, and translate those decisions into high-quality conversational experiences that support meaningful outcomes such as containment,
closure, and adoption.

What you ll do
" Help frame the most important user tasks to solve by contributing UX insight during early discovery
" Identify where usability, comprehension, trust, or interaction breakdowns create friction across voice and chat experiences
" Bring human-centered evidence, including behavioral patterns, usability findings, and interaction pain points, into product discussions
" Partner with Product to shape recommendations that improve task success, reduce confusion, and support business and experience goals
" Collaborate with Engineering to design conversational patterns that are feasible, scalable, and high quality
" Design end-to-end conversational experiences across chat and voice, including dialogue flows, prompts, responses, fallback paths, and recovery behaviors
" Drive clarity, tone, and consistency across assistant touchpoints
" Create the artifacts and design specifications needed to support build and launch
" Define and refine experience-relevant success measures, including ease of use indicators, handoff drivers, and task-completion friction
" Use post-launch learning to improve both the experience itself and future prioritization decisions

How you ll work
You ll operate as an embedded partner within a cross-functional team, working closely with Product and Engineering from discovery through delivery and iteration. Shared forums such as discovery reviews and prioritization discussions are a key part of how decisions get made.

What we re looking for
" Experience designing conversational experiences for AI assistants, chatbots, virtual assistants, or voice enabled products
" Strong writing, interaction design, and systems-thinking skills
" Experience designing multi-turn dialogue, fallback behavior, and recovery patterns
" Ability to connect user insight to product direction, not just interface execution
" Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and research or analytics partners
" Comfort balancing user needs, business goals, and technical constraints
" Ability to use research, testing, and performance data to continuously improve experiences

Preferred qualifications
" Experience with AI or LLM-powered products
" Experience designing across both chat and voice modalities
" Familiarity with regulated or high-trust environments
" Experience supporting provider, healthcare, or operational workflows
" Experience defining quality and success metrics for conversational products
" Bachelor s degree in HCI, Interaction Design, UX Design, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Communications, English, Computer Science, or a related field
" Equivalent practical experience in conversation design, UX, content design, or AI assistant design is also welcomed
