Cook (Hourly)

Hyman’s Seafood is a family-owned Charleston landmark serving up classic Lowcountry seafood with genuine Southern hospitality. We operate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and take pride in delivering consistent, high-quality food to thousands of guests each week. We’re looking for a skilled, dependable Lead Cook who sets the pace on the line, supports the team, and is interested in growing into a Kitchen Manager role over time.

Now Hiring: Lead Cook (Hourly)

Starting pay: $19-24/hour, depending on experience
Hours: 40–55 hours per week

Cooks who consistently demonstrate strong performance, reliability, and leadership will, over time, begin to take on additional responsibility and training. With strong performance and experience in the role, individuals may be considered for Kitchen Manager training and advancement after approximately 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Work across multiple stations including fry, sauté, grill, and expo, as needed

  • Execute menu items with speed, accuracy, and consistency in a high-volume kitchen

  • Ensure proper food handling, portioning, plating, and temperature standards

  • Set the pace on the line and support other cooks during service

  • Assist with training and mentoring cooks on execution, timing, and station organization

  • Communicate clearly with the Kitchen Manager and Expo to ensure smooth service flow

  • Assist with prep, station setup, breakdown, and end-of-shift cleaning

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards at all times

  • Lead by example with professionalism, urgency, accountability, and a positive attitude

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a line cook or lead cook in a high-volume restaurants for 3+ years

  • Strong working knowledge of multiple stations

  • Demonstrated leadership or interest in developing leadership skills

  • Ability to support and guide teammates during busy services

  • Calm under pressure with strong time management skills

  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented

  • Positive, team-first mindset

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
