Summary

Reporting to the Kitchen Supervisor, the Cook – FT manages all responsibilities associated with providing meals to meals for clients, children, and staff on the Nexus campus, as well as for occasional on campus events and meetings. Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of kitchen and dining area, and maintaining inventory and food storage room.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes, portion controls, and dietary guidelines, as defined by weekly menus and under the direction of the Kitchen Supervisor.
• Perform or supervise the cleaning of all kitchen equipment and restocking of dry storage area when shipments are received.
• Maintain inventory and use of cooking supply records as required by licensing and accreditation standards.
• Follow individualized meal plans for clients with special dietary needs (ex. low sodium, diabetic, allergen-free).
• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food items.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
• Monitor food quality, taste, and presentation.
• Train and assist kitchen staff or volunteers when needed.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts, including reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
• Other duties within the organization as assigned.

Competencies

• Basic understanding of cooking in an institution setting.
• Fundamental cooking skills.
• Working and practical knowledge of kitchen equipment and tools.
• Proficient in reading recipes and cooking directions.
• Able to lift boxes weighing at least 25 pounds.
• Good verbal communication skills, able to work in a team environment.
• Ability to place food orders for future meals.
• Strong time management skills.
• Understanding of HIPAA compliance and employee and client confidentiality.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Certification, Licenses, Registrations

• Must meet all certification and training requirements of licensing/accrediting agencies.
