POSITION TITLE: Cook – Part-Time - Weekends

LOCATION: Grand Forks, ND

DEPARTMENT: LaGrave on First Nutrition Program

REPORTS TO: Nutrition Program Coordinator and Director of Client Services

Hourly Range: $15.50 – $17.50, depending on qualifications and experience
Schedule: Weekends - Approximately 10 to 15 hours per weekend (may vary depending on program needs)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision of the Nutrition Program Coordinator and the Director of Client Services, this position supports the LaGrave on First meal program by planning, preparing, and delivering meals in a commercial kitchen setting. The Cook is responsible for ensuring meals meet food safety standards, maintaining kitchen sanitation, and contributing to a welcoming environment for residents and guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and presentation standards (serving approx. 65 meals/day)
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe kitchen environment
  • Follow all food safety and health regulations
  • Assist with food storage and labeling in accordance with safety guidelines
  • Support timely meal service in collaboration with other kitchen staff
  • Assist with dishwashing, cleaning, and overall sanitation of the kitchen area
  • Participate in inventory management and portion control
  • Provide courteous service and communicate effectively with residents and staff
  • Support other janitorial or kitchen duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen setting or large group meal preparation preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
  • Must pass criminal background checks

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to follow recipes and meal planning guidelines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 20 pounds and stand for prolonged periods
  • ServSafe certification required within 30 days of hire (or current certification preferred)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment:
Work performed in a commercial kitchen; may involve travel to and from meal delivery locations.

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged standing, lifting up to 20 pounds, bending, and reaching.

Schedule:
Position is part-time, generally 20 hours per week. The LaGrave on First meal program operates 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Schedule will be set in coordination with the Nutrition Program Coordinator and Director of Client Services.
