JOB SUMMARY
Certification of aircraft interior units often requires physical testing to demonstrate compliance with FAA and/or OEM requirements, or to simulate rough handling in service through assist and abuse load testing where applicable. Test articles may include seats, galleys, closets, dividers, bins, linings such as sidewalls, and other interior components, assemblies, or detail parts such as waste flaps or seat armrests.
The Static Test Technician is responsible for setting up and supporting these tests in accordance with the test plan provided. This includes light to moderate fabrication of fixtures and equipment, installation of test articles, and execution of test activities under the supervision of the cognizant Test Engineer.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES - Essential Functions (Other duties and projects may be assigned or requested.)
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
The Static Test Technician will oversee producing a test setup that matches what is in the test plan.
Fabrication of dummy fixtures, test frames, and other test equipment
Including cutting of wood or steel, welding of steel, and using screws/bolts for assembly
Installation of the unit on the fixture, and removal from the fixture when testing is complete.
Installation may require modification of the fixture for upper attachment, or drilling the fixture floor plate, tapping threads, etc.
Setting up door latching according to the test plan
Changing spring plates at galley structural attachments
Installation of a "whiffle tree" for application of loads via hydraulic cylinder
Loading weights (lead bars or bags at 25 to 35 lb) onto and then off of a unit as detailed in the test plan
Minor electrical assembly or rework (i.e. replacing a connector on a load cell transducer cable)
Setup of cyclic loading for fatigue testing
