Requirements:
Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Active SUD Counselor certification (CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LCADC, LCPC, LCSW, LGPC, LGADC, LGSW)
2+ years of experience in substance use disorder treatment (detox experience preferred)
Strong crisis management & de-escalation skills

Job Summary

The Substance Use Counselor’s role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Substance Use Counselor will provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions to assist recovering individuals in preventing relapse and promoting long-term recovery. The Substance Use counselor will use an outcomes-based approach and evidenced-based practices to achieve results.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct confidential, quality assessments, that are gender-responsive and trauma-informed, utilizing ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate level of care.
  • Use a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with clients and internal and external Hygea Healthcare treatment team members to help support clients in their treatment and recovery.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family sessions, using evidence-based modalities and interventions.
  • Work with a diverse and passionate team of professionals who share your vision and values.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Services or Addictions. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field with two or more years in a AOD or mental health setting preferred.
  • Licensed or Certified as a SUD Counselor: CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LCADC, LCPC, LCSW. Graduate level counselors (LGPC,LGADC, LGSW) welcome to apply.
  • Experience in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment: Bring prior experience in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, with a preference for experience in detox practices.
  • Crisis Management Skills: Proficient in providing support to clients during moments of crisis, equipped with effective verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborative Attitude: A team player who is dedicated to actively engaging in our mission to foster positive change.
  • Minimum of 2 years of non-internship experience treating substance use disorders
  • Minimum of 2 years on non-internship experience working in a residential treatment center or outpatient facility
