Job Description

American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) provides technical development and commercialization of domestic, sustainable sourcing of critical battery materials through lithium-ion battery recycling and battery metal extraction technologies for use in batteries that power electric cars, grid storage applications, and consumer electronics and tools. Our first of kind systems produce commercial-scale battery materials that are sold into the battery manufacturing supply chain.

We’re looking for a Corporate Controller to join our growing Accounting and Finance team. This role will be critical in supporting our growth and will have a significant impact on our company, with the opportunity to work on multiple technical accounting projects, research to solve ambiguous problems and implement novel accounting policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Own the preparation, review, and timely filing of Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, Proxy Statements, earnings support schedules, and other SEC reporting requirements, including disclosure controls and procedures, gathering data and provides sub-certifications to help the CEO and CFO sign off on the accuracy of periodic reports.
  • Lead technical accounting research, documentation, and position papers for complex transactions including government grants, tax credits, debt and equity financings, stock-based compensation, acquisitions, leases, revenue recognition, and emerging business initiatives. The role owns technical accounting manners as a reviewer and approver.
  • Oversee manufacturing accounting, inventory valuation, standard costing, capitalization, inventory reserves, fixed asset accounting, variance analysis, and cost of goods sold reporting.
  • Lead the Company's Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) readiness program, including documentation, testing, remediation, risk assessments, process design, and management of internal and external advisors.
  • Designs, documents, and maintains the operational effectiveness of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR). Identifies control deficiencies or material weaknesses and implements corrective action plans.
  • As the company continues to scale, automation will become critical and the Corporate Controller will drive the finance systems strategy, ERP optimization, reporting automation, close acceleration, and scalable accounting processes to support rapid organizational growth.
  • Prepare and present financial reporting, technical accounting analyses, SOX updates, internal control matters, and significant accounting judgments to executive management, the Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Overall responsibility for the accurate and timely closing of the monthly, quarterly, and annual books and records in accordance with US GAAP.  
  • Responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations ensuring compliance with the business' accounting policies and procedures.  
  • Primary point of contact for external auditors, accounting advisors and consultants during quarter- and year-end audit.  
  • Lead, train, develop, and motivated accounting staff to maintain a high level of employee commitment and competence for sustained and self-reliant performance and achievement of departmental and organizational goals. 
  • Act as a strategic business partner to the senior executive leadership team.  
  • Preparation and/or review of ad hoc analysis/projects. 
  • Identify, evaluate and implement process improvement and efficiencies opportunities to reduce manual work and increase automation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active CPA license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a public-company controllership, SEC reporting, or technical accounting leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and filing Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K.
  • Experience designing and maintaining ICFR and SOX compliance programs.
  • Manufacturing and cost accounting experience.
  • Experience managing external audits with a PCAOB-registered audit firm.
  • Strong leadership experience managing accounting organizations through periods of rapid growth.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • MBA and/or Master's in Accounting.
  • Experience in battery materials, mining, manufacturing, chemicals, industrials, clean energy, or recycling industries.
  • Experience with:
    • Government grants
    • DOE-funded programs
    • IRA tax incentives (45X, 48C, 48E)
    • Equity compensation programs
    • Capital market transactions
    • ERP implementations
  • Experience supporting a company through accelerated filer readiness and SOX 404(b) compliance.

Expected Pay Range

$150k - $200k per year.

Compensation for this position may vary based on a number of individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The total compensation package may also include additional components such as bonus, equity, and benefits, which will be detailed upon offer of employment.
