Position: Counselor, Bi-lingual Strongly Preferred
FLSA Status: Salaried Full-Time-Benefits Eligible-35 hours per week,
Hours: Monday through Friday with flexible hours, including two evening shifts: Tuesdays in Riverhead (11:00 AM–7:00 PM) and Thursdays in Hauppauge (11:00 AM–7:00 PM). Schedule may vary week to week based on program needs.
Department/Location: At least 3 days in person, Hauppauge and/or Riverhead locations.

Salary Range: $65,000-$69,000


PURPOSE
Provide counseling services to children, teens, and adults who have experienced power-based violence. This may include domestic violence, family violence, child abuse, child sexual abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking. This position reports to the Director of Counseling. 


DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
The family assistance counselor in this agency is delegated the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides individual, group or family counseling sessions in person or through telehealth
The ability to assess client's appropriately
Maintain a minimum caseload of 20 clients
Co-facilitation of one weekly group per year
Offer crisis-intervention, safety planning, and emotional support to clients in urgent or high-risk situations
Support clients in building coping strategies, self-regulation skills, and resilience throughout their healing journey
Maintain timely, accurate and confidential documentation, including intakes, informed consent, progress notes, etc., in compliance with Agency, ethical and funder standards.
Conducts weekly client sessions in person or virtually
Coordinates with Child Protective Services and other agencies to provide ongoing and comprehensive support and intervention to client family systems
Participates in weekly individual supervision and weekly group supervision
Must work two evening shifts per week
May be able to work remotely based on the needs of the department.
Attends agency functions as requested by management
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALITIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related field
2+ years of experience in trauma informed care.
Previous experience working with victims impacted by power-based violence preferred.
Must possess a high level of competency in organizational skills, interpersonal communications, and relationship building.
Familiarity with evidence-based treatment modalities, including but not limited to TF-CBT, EMDR, and DBT, with the ability to adapt interventions to meet the unique needs of survivors of exploitation and trauma.
Spanish/Bilingual strongly preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) Zoom and Google Drive.
Ability to collaborate with team members, coordinating feedback and knowledge.
Experience with evidence-based modalities that are implemented with trauma survivors.
Must be willing to work two evening shifts
Strong interpersonal skills
Must be able to maintain client/agency confidentiality, and treat each individual with dignity and respect


OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have New York State Driver's License (required) and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed)
Fingerprint clearance required.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Sits, stands, stoops, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours.
May lift, push or pull 10-20 pounds daily; may push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
May be able to carry and set up tables and boxes of materials for special events
