    Job Description:

    The School-Based Counselor provides behavioral health counseling, assessment, crisis intervention, care coordination, and supportive services to children, adolescents, and families within partnered school districts and community settings. This position supports Valle del Sol's mission by delivering culturally responsive, trauma-informed behavioral health services that promote emotional wellness, student success, and access to care.

    The School-Based Counselor collaborates closely with school personnel, caregivers, interdisciplinary treatment teams, and community partners to support continuity of care and positive behavioral health outcomes for students and families.

    This position follows a 10-month academic-year schedule aligned with partner school calendars.

    • Provides individual, group, and family counseling services to children and adolescents within school-based settings.
    • Conducts behavioral health assessments, screenings, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
    • Provides crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and stabilization support as clinically appropriate.
    • Collaborates with school staff, caregivers, community agencies, and interdisciplinary treatment teams to coordinate care and support student success.
    • Facilitates therapeutic groups and psychoeducational interventions consistent with program and school needs.
    • Conducts school-based observations and interventions as clinically appropriate.
    • Participates in Child and Family Teams (CFTs), care coordination activities, and interdisciplinary case consultation.
    • Maintains assigned caseload productivity and timely completion of documentation requirements.
    • Promotes family and school involvement throughout the service delivery process.
    • Supports transition planning and continuity of care for students and families.
    • Maintains collaborative and professional relationships with school administration, school staff, and community partners.
    • Participates in supervision, required trainings, quality improvement initiatives, and staff meetings.
    • Travels between school campuses, Valle del Sol locations, and community settings as required.

    Other Duties

    • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintains the confidentiality and security of patient, employee, and organizational information in accordance with HIPAA and Valle del Sol policies.
    • Promotes a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by following safety policies, infection control practices, and quality standards.
    • Performs duties in accordance with Valle del Sol policies, procedures, ethical standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
    • Supports Valle del Sol's mission and commitment to culturally responsive care.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Job Qualifications:

    Education

    • Required: Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.

    Experience

    Required:

    • Experience providing behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and families.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in school-based behavioral health or community behavioral health settings.
    • Experience collaborating with schools and multidisciplinary teams.

    Licensure/Certification

    Required:

    • Active Arizona behavioral health license or associate license including:

    • LMSW / LCSW

    • LAC / LPC

    • LAMFT / LMFT

    • Must meet the licensure, certification, or credentialing requirements applicable to the position in accordance with Arizona law and applicable regulatory authorities.

    • Must practice within the scope of the applicable credential(s) consistent with organizational policies and the needs of the populations served.

    • BLS certification, or ability to obtain within 5 days of start date.

    • Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card, or ability to obtain within 5 days of start date.

    • Valid Arizona driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.

    Other Requirements

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
    • Must be able to pass pre- and continued employment screenings successfully.
