This class manages the daily activities of the survey section of the design division, conducts project permitting and developmental reviews, and performs professional surveying services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Manages the activities of the land surveying section, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.

Conducts development/permitting reviews to ensure compliance with applicable codes, completeness and accuracy of information, and/or other related issues.

Conducts land surveying services, which includes: determining correct boundary lines; interpreting deeds and land descriptions; checking and certifying maps; identifying and resolving technical problems; providing formal testimony in quasi-judicial settings; and/or, performing other related activities.

Serves as a liaison with employees and external organizations; represents the County at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, on committees, and/or other related events.

Maintains the County's geodetic survey control monuments, which includes: inspecting monuments; coordinating the replacement of monuments with external contractors; coordinating control upgrades; and/or, performing other related activities.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Training and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in area of specialty or related field and minimum of five years work experience in land surveying, three of which should be in a supervisory capacity; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver's license

Valid Florida Professional Surveyor and Mappers' License

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):

Land surveying principles, practices, and methods

Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes

Development review principles, practices, and procedures

Ability to survey land

Emergency Management Responsibilities:

During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work

Requires walking, stooping, standing, climbing, and seeing while performing field activities/inspections.
