The Position

Do you have experience working in a legal office, court, or other public safety setting? Do you want to play a part in ensuring everyone in your community has access to justice? Beaverton Municipal Court wants to hear from you!

Beaverton Municipal Court is hiring a Court Support Specialist 2 to provide in-person assistance to court visitors and support the court's day-to-day operations. Court Support Specialists work at the court's public service counter and in the courtroom, as well as processing work queues to ensure that case files, documents, and correspondence are handled promptly and accurately.

We're looking for candidates who:

  • Can communicate clearly and respectfully with people from all backgrounds, especially during stressful or emotional situations.
  • Have experience handling cash and card payments and following daily balancing procedures.
  • Enjoy variety in their work day and feel comfortable shifting between customer service, courtroom support, data entry, and other tasks as needed.
  • Are interested in learning legal terminology and following court policies and procedures.
  • Work well in a team environment and can thrive in a workplace where tasks and responsibilities are shared.
  • Take pride in getting details right, especially when reviewing documents, entering data, and preparing notices that affect court cases.

Court Support Specialists are the public face of the court for callers and visitors, and every interaction helps ensure that community members can navigate the justice system with dignity and support. If you're interested in using your customer service skills to serve Beaverton, please apply today.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, SEIU-classified position. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, during city business hours. Because this role provides in-person customer service and courtroom support, it is not eligible for remote or hybrid work. There is one full-time vacancy, but this recruitment may be used to fill additional temporary or part-time vacancies that arise in the next six months.

Please click APPLY to submit your application via the City of Beaverton's online portal. You will need to enter your work history and respond to several supplemental questions. Your education, skills, and experience will be evaluated using the information you provide in the application and supplemental questions. Attaching a resume or cover letter does not replace the requirement to fully complete the application.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person customer service at the court's public counter and over the phone, helping people with payments, forms, filings, and general court questions.
  • Remain calm while using de-escalation skills and solution-oriented support to calmly assist people who may be upset, confused, or stressed.
  • Take cash and card payments, issue receipts, and balance daily totals accurately.
  • Support traffic court proceedings by clerking in the courtroom, entering case updates, and assisting court staff during hearings.
  • Receive, process, and respond to incoming correspondence, ensuring all documents are reviewed for accuracy and completeness prior to routing them for court action
  • Enter and update case information in the court's case-management system.
  • Process work queues, filings, and legally required notices to keep cases moving on schedule.
  • Complete forms, reports, and other correspondence using Adobe and other standard office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Follow established court procedures to handle confidential and sensitive information, and apply legal terminology correctly during daily tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers to share workload, solve problems, and maintain smooth operations.
  • Additional duties are outlined in the Court Support Specialist 2 class specification.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and

  • Two years of experience in a high-volume customer service environment, including

  • Cash handling experience, and

  • 1 year of experience in a criminal justice, legal, or public safety environment; or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing and special requirements

  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check, including Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprints.
  • CJIS and Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification will be required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen.

Studies have shown that some candidates hesitate to apply for a position if they do not believe they meet 100% of the hiring criteria. The city's talent acquisition goals include hiring the candidate who is best able to meet the performance objectives of the role. We encourage people with non-traditional skill sets and experiences to apply, even if you believe you do not meet 100% of the qualifications and hiring criteria described.

Compensation

Wage range: $27.01 - $36.20 hourly

Starting pay within the posted range is based on a review of your related work experience, as required by the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Applicants whose work history clearly demonstrates additional directly related experience may be placed at a higher step within the range.

To ensure an accurate evaluation, please include all relevant work history in your application, including part-time, volunteer, or other roles that show related experience.
