PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The central processing attendant purpose of this position is to process supplies, instruments, and equipment through cleaning, decontamination, reassembly, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distribution to patient and requesting areas. The Surgery Attendant purpose of this position is to transport patients, assist the professional nursing staff with direct patient care, and general housekeeping duties including terminally cleaning procedure rooms, opening supplies and picking cases.
The surgical supply attendant will be required to assure all equipment, materials, and instruments will be operable and available the day of surgery. To accomplish this, this person will work very closely with counterparts in materials management. This person will be responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling operating room material resources, placing special material orders, coordinating orders, and restocking supplies at par levels and will maintain active communication among interdepartmental staff.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Demonstrates knowledge of standards in the disinfection, cleaning, processing and sterilization of instruments and equipment provided through the department.
Duty 2: Promotes clean and safe working environment through recommended transport and disposal of bio hazardous items.
Duty 3: Utilizes effective communication skills with all departments to achieve transfer of information and supplies necessary for continuous patient care.
Duty 4: Maintains delivery of patient care through identification and delivery of supplies.
Duty 5: Demonstrates safe and effective operation of equipment through utilization of daily testing and verification process.
Duty 6: Identifies flow of daily schedules to anticipate needs throughout the hospital.
Duty 7: Demonstrates understanding of proper body mechanics utilized while working with equipment within the department and during transport throughout the hospital.
Duty 8: Identifies flow of daily schedules to anticipate needs of each procedure area.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in sitting, walking, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and standing. The associate must help transport patients and be able to lift 50 pounds or more. The individual must have excellent eye/hand coordination with the ability to grasp, push and pull, fine finger dexterity and manipulation. The associate must be able to reach work above the shoulders and operate foot controls. This position requires corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The associate must have excellent verbal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers.
This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
