Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a Child Protective Services (CPS) Supervisor. The successful candidate will join the Child Protective Services program within the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. Job Summary

Loudoun County Family Services is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and established professional candidate to lead a Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations and Family Assessments (I&A) Team.

The CPS Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative supervision and professional leadership to a dynamic team responding to the needs of our most vulnerable children and families. The selected candidate will oversee cases involving protective services to children and families, assuring that complaints, investigations, and assessments are managed according to federal, state, and local policies, including completeness and timeliness. This position requires the individual to maintain a supportive work environment, with the ability to inspire and encourage productivity and teamwork amongst staff. Work is performed in a forward-thinking organization that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Establish performance expectations and goals for the team.
  • Lead a team of CPS workers with activities and plans to accomplish goals.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation in the unit.
  • Cover emergencies and provide clinical direction to employees.
  • Lead unit meetings.
  • Monitor staff compliance.
  • Work with a diverse and multi-ethnic population and workforce.
  • Possess the ability to diffuse potentially volatile situations and deal with competing and demanding circumstances.
  • Demonstrate capacity to manage crisis situations that require critical decisions involving people, resources, and property.

This position is eligible for a $3,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the county's hiring and retention-bonus program.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required AND, four (4) years of directly related experience in a human services area to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous direct experience in Virginia Child Protective Services (CPS).
  • At least one year of supervisory experience in Virginia Child Protective Services, along with a strong working knowledge of applicable Virginia laws and regulations.
  • Masters degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field; clinical licensure.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Pass pre-employment background checks including criminal, credit, DMV, and CPS/APS checks. Valid driver's license (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Hold or obtain licensure in Social Work, i.e., LCSW or LSW. Hold or obtain additional certifications preferred by the Department. Complete required County e-learning and MOAT training requirements as directed by department. Complete required supervisory training.

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department.
