Position Overview

The Diez Group Kansas City (DGKC) is seeking a safety-conscious and dependable Crane Operator to support our warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for safely operating a remote overhead crane to move steel, aluminum coils, materials, and other products throughout our 160,000-square-foot facility.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to workplace safety. Previous overhead crane experience is preferred; however, we are willing to train motivated candidates who demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate a remote overhead crane to lift, transport, position, and stage materials throughout the facility.
• Move steel and aluminum coils, pallets, and other materials to designated areas while maintaining safe and efficient material flow.
• Inspect crane equipment before use and promptly report equipment damage, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions.
• Follow all applicable safety rules, operating procedures, and material-handling requirements.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other personnel to coordinate material movement and support production and warehouse operations.
• Interpret written instructions and basic blueprints, drawings, or schematics as needed.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and potential hazards during crane operation.
• Maintain an organized and safe work area.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support operational efficiency.
• Obtain and maintain required certifications or licenses for powered industrial equipment, as applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or GED, equivalent training, or equivalent military experience required.
• Previous overhead crane operating experience preferred; training may be available for motivated candidates.
• Experience in a steel, aluminum, manufacturing, or warehouse environment preferred.
• Crane operator certification is a plus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required qualifications to operate powered industrial equipment, including forklifts (Hilos), overhead cranes, and manlifts, as applicable.
• Strong coordination, focus, and attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret written instructions and basic blueprints or schematics.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and follow established safety procedures.
• Dependable, professional, and committed to ethical work practices.
• Demonstrates initiative in identifying and reporting equipment or safety concerns.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must adhere to company attendance policies.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position primarily operates on the plant floor of a steel and aluminum processing and distribution facility. The role involves working around industrial equipment, heavy materials, and active warehouse and manufacturing operations.

Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as designated, and all company safety procedures must be followed. Employees may also work in warehouse, truck lot, or office areas as needed.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and ascend or descend stairs.
• Must be able to lift or move heavy materials when required by assigned duties, using appropriate equipment and safe material-handling practices.
• Must possess the visual abilities necessary for safe crane operation, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to operate or obtain the required qualifications to operate powered industrial equipment, including overhead cranes and other equipment as assigned.

Position Type and Schedule

This is a full-time position, generally scheduled Monday through Friday. Overtime, extended hours, and weekend work may be required based on business needs.
