Crossing Guard

The City of Lebanon is looking for to fill openings as a seasonal part-time crossing guard. The role of a crossing guard assists school children in crossing traffic intersections at an assigned post during the hours when children are entering and leaving school. Position requires sound judgment in the safe and effective control of traffic and pedestrians. Applicants must have good public relations skills has it has significant contact with the public. The incumbent works in outdoor weather conditions and is exposed to extremes of heat/cold; noise; odors; inclement weather (e.g. rain snow) and moving vehicles/traffic and pedestrians. This part-time school year position averages 10 to 15 hours per week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The main responsibility of a crossing guard is to provide a safe crossing for adult and juvenile pedestrians by controlling traffic at designated crossings.Assigned to a cross walk during mornings and afternoons when school is in session.

Physical Requirements:

Position is required to stand for up to one hour or more in duration; must be able to walk, see/hear/speak clearly and fully extend arms overhead and out to the side. Position requires normal vision requirements and must be able to distinguish different colors to identify traffic signals and possess depth perception to gauge safe distances between vehicles and pedestrians. Hand and eye coordination required to perform clear signaling. Must maintain alertness to traffic, pedestrian movement and traffic signals for extended periods of time.

Hours of Work:

Monday-Friday, morning and afternoon when school is in session.
