Do you enjoy working in a hands-on food and beverage environment? Kalamazoo Valley Community College is seeking responsible, energetic and motivated individuals to serve as Culinary & Brewing Lab Assistants.

Lab Assistants support instructors, staff and students with classroom, kitchen, brewery, laboratory, retail and special event activities. Assignments may vary depending on instructional and operational needs.

Examples of typical duties include:

• Preparing kitchens, brewery, laboratory and/or instructional spaces for classes and activities.
• Assisting instructors and students with demonstrations and hands-on activities.
• Providing hands-on support for activities such as food preparation, brewing, retail operations and special events.
• Assisting with receiving, storing, organizing and distributing food, beverages, supplies and equipment.
• Supporting inventory, stocking, packaging and storage activities.
• Assisting with beer production, fermentation monitoring, transfers, carbonation and kegging if assigned.
• Setting up, operating and cleaning basic culinary, brewery and laboratory equipment.
• Supporting food and beverage operations, including preparation, service, stocking and cashiering.
• Maintaining safe, clean, organized and instruction-ready work areas.
• Completing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Knowledge of basic food handling and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Reliable, motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Previous culinary, brewing, food service, hospitality or other related industry experience.
• Culinary or brewing coursework.
• SERV Safe certification or other relevant food or beverage training.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to safely work around hot equipment, wet conditions and chemicals.
• Ability to move and handle food products, supplies, hoses, buckets, pumps, kegs and related equipment.
• Ability to work in busy, high-traffic and occasionally noisy environments.

Work Hours: Up to 29 hours per week. Schedule and assignments will vary based on instructional and operational needs. Posting Date 10/02/2026 Closing Date: Special Instructions to Applicants:
