School Description

Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries; including 25 schools in the United States and Canada. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single gender classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 500 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

Position Description

The Curriculum Coordinator helps oversee the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning. They help ensure that excellent teaching and learning is evident through high quality, aligned curriculum and instructional practices that are grounded in current research, foster 21st century skills, and reflect the Goals and Criteria. Additionally, they work with the Academic Team to ensure that students’ diverse learning needs are identified and addressed through effective instructional and assessment practices. Excellence in teaching and learning is a priority for all school stakeholders, who openly collaborate and communicate to articulate and realize a cohesive academic vision for the school.

Essential Job Functions:

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Assess teachers’ and students’ curricular and instructional needs; review, select, and purchase curriculum and instructional materials that support student learning and differentiation.
  • Administer Atlas and coordinate vertical, horizontal, and standards alignment across divisions and departments.
  • Work with teachers to ensure curriculum is coherent, aligned, and supports the school's academic vision.
  • Edit and revise curriculum guides and academic materials for admissions and external audiences.
  • Stay current on emerging practices and address challenges related to curriculum implementation and evaluation.
  • Work closely with instructional coaches on curriculum implementation and alignment.
  • Support ongoing horizontal and vertical faculty meetings focused on curriculum alignment, reflection, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Team to develop and advance a clear academic vision, including strategies, outcomes, and measures that guide teaching and learning.
  • Lead vertical curriculum work to implement recommendations from external reviews and accreditation processes.
  • Conduct external curriculum reviews to identify areas for curriculum refinement and improvement.
  • Help facilitate ISACS and other accreditation processes, particularly those related to the academic program.
  • Manage curriculum contracts and purchases that fulfill academic vision, giving detailed attention to the budget.

Assessment

  • Coordinate school wide assessment processes and collaborate with teachers and division heads to analyze, interpret, and utilize assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Communicate with parents regarding assessment programs and results.
  • Evaluate and recommend assessment tools that provide meaningful data on student growth and achievement.
  • Educate faculty, staff, and parents on the purposes of assessment and how assessment data supports student learning.
  • Assist the Academic Team in identifying instructional expectations and integrating them into observation and evaluation processes.

Professional Learning

  • Provide and coordinate training for adopted curricular programs and instructional initiatives.
  • Support a comprehensive approach to professional learning by identifying faculty needs and sharing opportunities for professional growth.
  • Coordinate professional learning opportunities through Title IIA and IV funding.
  • Assist division heads in ensuring that faculty evaluation and growth programs promote instructional excellence and continuous professional renewal.
  • Coordinate Parent Education initiatives in collaboration with the Academic Team.

Other Responsibilities

Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Head of Schools.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, in curriculum and instructional design preferred; master’s degree preferred

Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience required

Experience with curriculum design, student assessment, instructional practices, and data analysis

Experience training, facilitating, and communicating with teachers in elementary education

Excellent communication skills

Ability to assess and create solutions from those assessments

Pay Range $62,000 - $80,000 Based on experience and level of education.
