CUSTODIAN
SALARY RANGE: (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant)
- $15.50 to $16.25 per hour DOE following the Current Negotiated Agreement schedule.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- To provide services for the full range of cleaning assignments for the Hot Springs School
District.
QUALIFICAITONS:
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma; or six (6) months of related
experience .
- Evidence of ability to follow written instructions and oral direction are required.
REPORTS TO:
- Directly reports to Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- To maintain the district facility, grounds, and equipment are always in clean and safe
condition.
- Incumbent is responsible for setting up a sequence of tasks within the framework of the general
schedule established by the supervisor.
- Accomplishing assigned tasks in a safe manner.
- Reporting safety hazards and reporting any accidents promptly.
- Cleaning offices, classrooms, storage areas and other assigned areas.
- Uses a variety of materials, chemicals and equipment to sweep, mop, scrub, wax and polish.
- Empties trash cans and removes them to designated areas.
- Vacuums and cleans carpets, washes windows, blinds, white boards, and walls, and all
surfaces as necessary to remove graffiti and excessively soiled areas.
- Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Moves furniture for cleaning.
- Cleans restrooms assuring that proper chemicals are utilized for proper sanitation; replaces soap
and paper items.
- Assures equipment is properly cared for and maintains replacing belts, brushes, etc., as
necessary for continued efficiency.
- Responsible for maintaining frequent use of janitorial supplies by advising the supervisor well
in advance for material or equipment needed.
- May also be required to haul trash, shovel snow, mow grass, chip weeds, trim shrubs, and
assist with painting, minor plumbing, and carpentry work as needed.
- All other duties assigned by the department supervisor.
- Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be in excellent physical condition.
- Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read without strain, printed material the size of
typewritten characters is required, glasses permitted.
- Working conditions will primarily be inside the buildings, however working in a variety of
weather conditions will be required when performing such duties as shoveling snow and
cutting grass.
- No overtime is allowed unless prior approval by the Administrator.
- Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position.
