Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
D-Tools, Inc.
Location: Eastern or Central U.S. time zone (slight preference for Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC)
Reports to: CEO
Commitment: Full-time
Compensation: Competitive base + performance-based variable compensation + equity participation
For nearly three decades, D-Tools has been the technology backbone of the audiovisual integration industry. Our software powers the proposals, designs, and workflows that more than 10,000 users at thousands of AV integration firms depend on every day. Our product catalog of over 2 million items is the most comprehensive data asset in the industry.
We are on a strong growth trajectory: building new services on our SaaS foundation, investing in the business, and investing aggressively in AI. We operate a legacy enterprise platform alongside a modern cloud solution, and both are growing. There is a lot happening at D-Tools right now: a fast wave of product releases with more debuting at industry events like CEDIA, InfoComm and ISE, a recent investment that widens what we deliver to customers, and a team energized about what is next.
AI is the defining inflection point for the software industry, and D-Tools intends to lead that transition in our market. This is a CTO role for a builder, not a maintainer. We have the market position, the customer trust, and the data moat. What we need is a technology leader who can build on that foundation and accelerate the next phase of growth.
You will partner with a strong Chief Product Officer who came to us through our recent investment and now owns product strategy across the portfolio. That partnership frees you to focus on where you do your best work: architecture, engineering culture, AI in product, and shipping. You will not carry the product remit. You will carry the engineering remit alongside a peer who is already an expert at leading product. If you do your best work turning complexity into clarity and building teams that ship, keep reading.
You have written code, designed systems, and led teams that shipped products customers depend on. Your career is in product development and engineering, building customer-facing vertical B2B SaaS. You have shipped real customer-facing products with real users and revenue attached. You have led architecture that survived scale. You may not write production code every day, but you are still close to it: reviewing pull requests when it matters, sketching architectures on a whiteboard, and using modern AI development tools yourself, not just having your team use them. Whether you have been a CTO or you are a VP or Director of Engineering ready for the seat, what matters is what you have shipped recently and where you are heading.
This is a full-time role. You are ready to make D-Tools your singular focus, your next chapter.
PE-backed, investor-owned, or high-growth SaaS environment experience, including board reporting and diligence exposure. Success in a small or midsize, resource-constrained company where the CTO is close to the work. Familiarity with the electronic systems integration or AV industry and the mindset of its buyers. Based in or willing to relocate to Atlanta or Charlotte.
Beyond experience, we care about character. Three principles define the culture we are building:
Passion. You care deeply about building great software and the impact it has on real customers. That energy is contagious.
Humility. You listen before you prescribe. You give credit freely and own it when things go sideways. No room for egos.
Curiosity. You ask why before you ask how. You are drawn to problems you have not solved before, and you push the people around you to think bigger.
