About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a hands-on Data Center Deployment Engineer to support the installation and deployment of enterprise IT infrastructure.

In this field-based role, you will work closely with a Senior Data Center Deployment Engineer or designated Field Lead to install, rack, cable, label, and validate servers, network switches, storage systems, and related infrastructure.
You will follow established procedures, maintain accurate deployment documentation, troubleshoot routine installation issues, and help ensure each site is ready for operational handoff.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT infrastructure professional who enjoys fieldwork, teamwork, and practical problem-solving in dynamic data center environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and inventory equipment against the bill of materials (BOM), documenting damaged, missing, or incorrect items.

  • Install rack rails and mount enterprise servers, network switches, load balancers, and storage systems in designated racks.

  • Route, dress, secure, and label copper and fiber network cabling and power connections according to site standards and ANSI/TIA-606 labeling requirements.

  • Install field-replaceable components, including power supplies, optical transceivers, and drive packs, under the direction of the Field Lead.

  • Power on deployed equipment and assist with initial validation of network link status, power redundancy, and hardware health.

  • Identify and resolve routine installation issues, escalating unexpected hardware, connectivity, or deployment problems to the Field Lead.

  • Capture before-and-after photographs and document equipment serial numbers, rack locations, cable labels, and port mappings for project closeout.

  • Follow facility access procedures, escort requirements, safety protocols, and security policies while maintaining a clean and organized work area.

  • Collaborate with deployment team members and share driving responsibilities when traveling between sites on multi-location assignments.

  • Follow written deployment plans, verbal instructions, checklists, and established procedures to complete assignments accurately and on schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience installing IT infrastructure or data center equipment.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience racking and cabling servers, network switches, storage systems, or similar enterprise hardware.

  • Working knowledge of copper and fiber-optic cabling, patch panels, optical transceivers, and power distribution.

  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions, execute deployment checklists, and maintain accurate technical documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail, practical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a small technical team.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable federal/Public Trust background investigation, as required for access to VA and other federal facilities.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline.

  • Eight additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement, subject to applicable position requirements.

  • A minimum of five years of relevant hands-on installation experience is required.

Preferred Certifications

  • Fiber-optic cable installation (OLAN).

  • BICSI Installer or BICSI Technician.

  • CompTIA Server+.

  • CompTIA Network+.
