About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic, agile-minded data scientist to help shape a new era of customer-led digital performance and experimentation across Gap Inc. brands. As part of the Brand Data Science team, you'll join a group of creative, business-minded data scientists who combine analytical rigor, technical depth, and executive storytelling to drive meaningful impact.

Your curiosity about customer behavior will compel you to frame multiple hypotheses, structure ambiguous problems, and uncover insights across complex customer journeys. You are equally comfortable working with large-scale clickstream data, complex customer identity spaces and translating findings into clear, compelling narratives that influence product and business decisions. You understand that impact comes from pairing data with sound judgment, business context, and the ability to present findings with clarity.

In this role, you will focus primarily on digital product analytics and experimentation, analyzing the end-to-end digital funnel, drive traffic insights and measurable improvements in conversion and customer experience. You'll also contribute to broader testing efforts across site, marketing and store experiences for a single Brand in the Gap Inc portfolio.

What You'll Do

  • Lead digital product analytics for a portfolio Brand: Analyze the digital customer journey (entry browse cart checkout) to identify friction points and opportunities to improve conversion and engagement.
  • Build and deliver reporting using Adobe Customer Journey Analytics: Develop scalable, brand-facing dashboards and analyses, leveraging CJA alongside backend SQL data sources.
  • Work deeply with clickstream and identity data: Analyze large-scale behavioral datasets to understand customer journeys across online and offline behavior.
  • Design and evaluate experiments: Generate hypotheses, support A/B and causal test design, and execute rigorous measurement to understand drivers of KPI movement.
  • Synthesize and communicate insights: Independently translate complex analyses into clear storylines and executive-ready visuals that drive action.
  • Ensure measurement quality: Partner with engineering and analytics teams to validate tracking, instrumentation, and experiment setup.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with Product, Marketing, eCommerce, Finance, Store Operations, and Engineering teams to inform decisions and prioritize opportunities.
  • Support broader experimentation efforts: Contribute to testing strategies across marketing campaigns and targeted store initiatives when needed.

Who You Are

  • 2-4 years of experience in data science, product analytics, or digital analytics, or equivalent experience
  • Strong statistical foundation (hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design)
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Customer Journey Analytics strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Hands-on experience with clickstream or event-level data
  • Experience analyzing A/B tests and communicating results to stakeholders
  • Ability to synthesize analysis into clear, executive-level narratives
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Advanced degree in Math, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields strongly preferred
  • Experience in Retail industry strongly preferred
  • Experience with data visualization tools preferred (PowerBI,Tableau, Looker, etc.)

About the Company

T

The Gap Inc

Doris and Don Fisher opened the first Gap store in 1969 with a simple idea -- to make it easier to find a pair of jeans and a commitment to do more. Over the last 46 years, the company has grown from a single store to a global fashion business with five brands -- Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta and Intermix. Gap's clothes are available in 90 countries worldwide through 3,300 company-operated stores, almost 400 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites and is still growing. Many companies work to improve their services and businesses every day by using GAP Testers who anonymously go into various places and report back to the companies on everything from cleanliness, customer service to quality control. Being a tester is a very flexible, fun job with lots of benefits.
