Job Title: Database Administrator (IDMS DBA) – Project Lead
Location: 100% Remote
Duration: 12 Months (Extension Possible)
 
Job Description
 
We are seeking a highly experienced Database Administrator (IDMS DBA) – Project Lead to support a large-scale enterprise modernization initiative. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in CA IDMS database administration on IBM z/OS mainframe environments, along with strong leadership, project coordination, and communication skills.
This role involves working with cross-functional technical teams to administer, optimize, and support enterprise databases while ensuring high availability, security, and performance. The successful candidate will be self-driven, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
 
 Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, monitor, and maintain CA IDMS databases following industry best practices.
  • Provide database support for development, testing, staging, and production environments.
  • Optimize database performance through monitoring, tuning, and performance analysis.
  • Design and implement database security, backup, recovery, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and support teams to resolve database-related issues.
  • Advise development teams on database design, schema modifications, and data modeling.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and stakeholders when required.
  • Participate in production support and a 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Prepare technical documentation and support continuous process improvements.
  • Perform additional database administration and project-related tasks as assigned.
 
 Required Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience administering CA IDMS databases in IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
  • 10+ years of experience with IDMS SQL implementation and relational database support.
  • 15+ years of experience implementing and managing IDMS security.
  • 15+ years of experience programming with COBOL and ADS/O using native and SQL-based IDMS databases.
  • 12+ years of experience with IBM High Level Assembler (HLASM).
  • 10+ years of experience using IDMS Perfmon for monitoring and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of database deployment, administration, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with project planning, effort estimation, and technical leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in distributed teams.
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Experience with RACF security administration.
  • Knowledge of application change management processes.
  • Healthcare or insurance industry experience.
  • Experience handling PHI/PII-sensitive environments.
  • Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) experience.
  • Public sector or government project experience.
  • Medicaid operations knowledge.
  • Secondary knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
