Job Summary

The Databricks Solutions Architect sets the technical direction for lakehouse programs and stays accountable for the design through go live. This person translates business objectives into a platform architecture that covers workspace topology, data layout, governance, compute strategy, security posture, and integration with the wider enterprise estate. The role is equally comfortable in an executive briefing and in a design review with engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Define current state and target state Databricks architecture across one or more cloud environments

• Design workspace, catalog, and compute topology aligned to organizational, security, and cost boundaries

• Establish medallion architecture standards and set the patterns teams follow for ingestion, transformation, and serving

• Lead architecture and design review sessions with client engineering, security, and enterprise architecture stakeholders

• Evaluate build versus buy decisions across ingestion tooling, orchestration, catalog, and BI layers

• Produce reference architectures, decision records, and runbooks that outlive the engagement

• Set guardrails for cost, performance, and reliability, and review implementation work against them

• Advise on migration sequencing and risk when legacy platforms are being retired

Required Skills

• 8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or platform engineering, with 3+ years designing on Databricks

• Deep understanding of the lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog

• Strong command of Apache Spark, including partitioning, shuffle behavior, and job tuning

• Architecture experience across at least one major cloud, including networking, identity, and storage services

• Experience designing for security and compliance requirements such as row and column level controls, encryption, and audit

• Ability to lead technical discovery and produce clear written architecture deliverables

• Comfort presenting to and influencing senior technical and business stakeholders

Preferred Skills

• Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional or Databricks Certified Solutions Architect Champion

• Experience with Lakeflow, Delta Live Tables, Databricks Asset Bundles, and Databricks SQL warehouses

• Prior migration work from Hadoop, Teradata, Snowflake, Synapse, or on premise Oracle

• Familiarity with data mesh or domain oriented ownership models

• Experience embedding AI and ML workloads into an enterprise data platform
