Summary:
The Deli Clerk is responsible for providing friendly and efficient customer service while preparing, packaging, and merchandising deli products. This position maintains a clean, safe, and well-stocked deli department and ensures that all products meet quality and food-safety standards.
Requirements/Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Greet customers and provide courteous, helpful service.
• Slice, weigh, package, and label deli meats and cheeses according to customer requests.
• Prepare sandwiches, salads, party trays, and other deli items as required.
• Stock and rotate deli products using proper FIFO (first in, first out) procedures.
• Operate slicers, scales, ovens, fryers, and other deli equipment safely and properly.
• Maintain proper temperatures for refrigerated, hot, and prepared foods.
• Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Clean and sanitize counters, equipment, utensils, floors, and work areas throughout the shift.
• Monitor product quality, freshness, appearance, and expiration dates.
• Assist customers with product questions and make recommendations when appropriate.
• Maintain attractive and organized displays and ensure products are properly priced and labeled.
• Monitor inventory and notify management when products or supplies need to be reordered.
• Minimize waste while maintaining quality and proper portion sizes.
• Handle customer concerns professionally and refer issues to management when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
• Previous deli, grocery, food-service, or customer-service experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to provide friendly and professional customer service.
• Ability to safely operate slicers and other deli equipment after appropriate training.
• Basic knowledge of food handling and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift and move products as needed.
Working Conditions:
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements. Employees may work around hot and cold environments.
