Position Summary

The Planning and Inventory Management Director is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and driving a world-class planning organization that seamlessly connects demand intelligence with supply execution. This leader will enable profitable growth while optimizing working capital across Radwell's global operations.

The Director will own the end-to-end planning agenda, leading the development of demand forecasting, inventory optimization, supply planning, and the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process. This role serves as a key strategic partner to Procurement, Sales, Finance, Operations, and Executive Leadership, ensuring planning decisions support organizational objectives, customer service expectations, and financial performance.

Operating across multiple regions and business units, the successful candidate will establish scalable planning processes, define inventory policies, implement performance metrics, and build the future-state planning organization. While initially an individual contributor, this leader will create the roadmap, structure, and team required to mature planning capabilities globally.

Success will be measured through forecast accuracy, inventory productivity, service-level achievement, operational responsiveness, and working-capital efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Analytics & Strategy

  • Lead global inventory analytics to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable insights across domestic and international operations.
  • Monitor inventory health, turnover, aging, and working capital performance.
  • Develop inventory segmentation strategies (ABC and similar methodologies) to optimize planning approaches based on item criticality and demand variability.
  • Identify excess, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory and develop proactive mitigation and disposition strategies.
  • Utilize advanced analytical and statistical tools to create demand profiles and improve inventory planning decisions.
  • Establish inventory governance processes and performance standards across regions.

Demand Planning & Forecasting

  • Develop and maintain statistically driven demand forecasts utilizing historical sales, market intelligence, customer trends, and commercial inputs.
  • Design and manage forecasting models that incorporate international market conditions, geopolitical factors, trade influences, and product lifecycle considerations.
  • Partner with Sales and Marketing leadership to incorporate promotions, market changes, and growth initiatives into forecasts.
  • Establish forecasting governance, including forecast overrides and measurable continuous improvement processes.
  • Define and monitor forecast accuracy and bias metrics (MAPE and related KPIs) through root-cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Evaluate and leverage digital demand signals, e-commerce data, market intelligence platforms, and emerging forecasting technologies.

Inventory Planning & Optimization

  • Lead inventory optimization efforts across the global distribution network.

  • Develop and maintain inventory policies for all SKU-location combinations, including:

  • Safety stock methodologies

  • Reorder point logic

  • Service-level targets

  • Inventory investment thresholds

  • Balance centralized and regional inventory strategies to maximize customer service while minimizing total inventory carrying costs.

  • Partner with IT and leadership to define and execute the planning systems roadmap.

  • Assess, select, implement, and optimize inventory and planning technology solutions.

  • Develop and execute stock liquidation strategies through internal and external channels.

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)

  • Design, implement, and lead a global S&OP process that aligns demand, supply, inventory, and financial planning.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among Sales, Procurement, Operations, and Finance to support informed decision-making.
  • Establish standardized planning processes, governance frameworks, and performance metrics across global locations.
  • Present demand, inventory, supply, and risk assessments to senior and executive leadership.
  • Serve as the organizational authority on inventory investment, supply risk, and forecasting performance.

Cost & Working Capital Management

  • Quantify and communicate the financial impact of inventory decisions and inventory investments.
  • Partner with Finance to connect inventory strategies with cash flow and working capital objectives.
  • Develop inventory projections and contribute to annual budgeting and financial planning processes.
  • Analyze carrying costs, ordering costs, stockout costs, duties, tariffs, and currency-related impacts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cash flow and reduce supply chain costs.
  • Support procurement planning through monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory and purchasing forecasts.

Supply Planning & Procurement Collaboration

  • Partner with Procurement to ensure supplier lead times, minimum order quantities, capacity constraints, and sourcing strategies are accurately reflected in planning models.
  • Provide actionable forward-looking demand insights to support supplier negotiations and sourcing decisions.
  • Assess supply chain risks and develop contingency inventory strategies.
  • Collaborate on supplier performance improvement initiatives and supply continuity planning.

Reporting & Business Performance

  • Own the global planning and inventory KPI framework.

  • Establish and manage key performance indicators including:

  • Forecast Accuracy (MAPE)

  • Inventory Turns

  • Fill Rate

  • Service Levels

  • Stockouts

  • Inventory Aging

  • Working Capital Efficiency

  • Develop executive-level reporting that connects planning performance to business outcomes.

  • Deliver actionable recommendations that improve revenue performance, customer experience, and inventory productivity.

  • Track and communicate the results of inventory optimization initiatives.

Process Improvement & Organizational Development

  • Lead Radwell's planning maturity journey through assessment, benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry best practices, including AI and machine learning-enabled forecasting solutions.
  • Drive change management initiatives supporting process standardization and planning excellence.
  • Build strong partnerships across commercial, operational, and financial functions.
  • Define the future-state planning organization, including roles, competencies, processes, and technology requirements.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing planning team as the function grows.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain planning, inventory management, demand planning, or S&OP leadership.
  • Demonstrated success leading end-to-end inventory and planning strategies within a complex, multi-site or global organization.
  • Strong expertise in demand forecasting, inventory optimization, supply planning, and working capital management.
  • Experience implementing or leading Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities with experience utilizing statistical forecasting techniques and inventory modeling methodologies.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leadership and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience within industrial distribution, manufacturing, automation, electronics, repair services, or similar sectors.
  • Experience implementing planning technologies, ERP systems, APS platforms, or inventory optimization software.
  • Exposure to international supply chain operations and global inventory management.
  • APICS/ASCM certifications such as CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent.
  • Master's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration (MBA), or related discipline.

Salary Information:

The recruiting base salary range for this FULL TIME position is $175000- 235,000/year plus annual company bonus. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, this role is bonus-eligible, with a target bonus percentage that provides an opportunity to earn even more based on company performance.
