THE COLLEGE

Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown SKlallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble SKlallam.

The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the Colleges service district. The College is home to House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/SKlallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway. THE POSITION

Performs dental hygiene instructional support involving the use of scientific, technical, and/or academic knowledge, materials, and techniques. Position works with clinic faculty to plan and conduct demonstrations in dental hygiene classrooms, lab, and clinic. Orders and tracks clinic supplies, conducts instrument management and sterilization, maintains an equipment maintenance schedule and assures that maintenance is completed on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Prepares equipment, materials, and solutions for dental hygiene clinic, lab, and classwork projects
• Prepares demonstrations as requested by instructors; assists instructor with lecture and laboratory material; conducts laboratory or lecture demonstrations; confers with instructor in establishing and developing assignments;
• Maintain MSDS binders.
• Assists and advises students in lab and clinic assignments or in discipline subject matter; writes, edits or modifies laboratory handouts or manuals; modifies experiments; advises instructors of potential problems with existing programs;
• Operates and performs routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory and clinic equipment and demonstration instruments.
• Monitors laboratories to ensure compliance with safety policy; assists in the development of safe laboratory procedures; restores lab and clinic to pre- scenario conditions;
• Estimates quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed; orders equipment and supplies for the clinic and courses; follows through with purchasing department for procurement of supplies; maintains adequate stock levels and inventory;
• Performs other work as required; 9. Perform daily / weekly maintenance of autoclaves; monitor documentation of autoclave cleaning and spore testing.
• Maintain water deionization unit / change filters.
• Inspect dental units weekly for problems or repairs; perform simple repairs of units; maintain schedule of equipment maintenance and repair.
• Monitor labeling in the clinic.
• Monitor documentation of N2O and O2 tank maintenance.

Other Work Activities:

• Performs other work as required

Duties of the position require knowledge and experience:

• Communicate effectively.
• Work effectively and collaboratively with dental hygiene faculty, staff and students.
• Excellent computer skills and ability to troubleshoot technological problems related to classroom and lab equipment.

Required physical abilities:

Work is performed in a classroom and lab environment and requires standing and/or sitting and using computers and equipment for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift approx. 20 lbs.

Required work schedule and work environment:

Position is normally scheduled Monday through Friday; normal hours of operation.

Required education or certificates:

• Associate or bachelors degree

• In lieu of a degree or formal coursework, a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in dental hygiene

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Registered Dental Assistant or Registered Dental Hygienist

• Experience working in the dental or healthcare industries

• Experience using Eaglesoft dental office software

Part-Time Employee Benefits:

• Vacation Leave Accrual: Your vacation leave will be accrued based on the hours worked in the previous month. The more hours you work, the higher your leave entitlement for the following month will be, up to a maximum of 11.33 hours per month.
• Sick Leave Accrual: Your sick leave will be accrued based on the hours worked in the previous month. The more hours you work, the higher your leave entitlement for the following month will be, up to a maximum of 8 hours per month.
