POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing preventive and periodontal care and supporting clinical dental operations. This role includes performing oral hygiene procedures, assisting with clinical workflows, and supporting patient care in coordination with the dentist and clinical staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform dental prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and periodontal maintenance
- Conduct oral health assessments and complete charting
- Take and review dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, instruments, and equipment in compliance with infection control protocols
- Provide oral health education and preventive care instructions
- Support the dentist in the development and implementation of treatment plans
- Document patient encounters in the electronic health record accurately and in a timely manner
- Identify and report conditions requiring referral or further evaluation
- Monitor and maintain supplies, inventory, and equipment
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational policies, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control standards
- Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and compliance activities
- Support clinical workflow, scheduling, and patient flow
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform opening and closing responsibilities as assigned
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong clinical and patient assessment skills
- Knowledge of dental procedures, infection control, and radiology safety
- Experience with electronic health records (EPIC preferred)
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience
- Current New Jersey Dental Hygienist license required
- Current CPR/BLS certification required
- Local anesthesia certification, if required by New Jersey regulations
