As a Dentist with HPWO, you will deliver preventive and primary dental care, educate patients on oral health and disease prevention, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team committed to improving community health. Health Partners of Western Ohio is an independent, non-profit and community-directed organization. We serve low-income areas and places without access to care. We’re led by a volunteer Board of Directors. Most of our board members are also patients. Our Mission is to eliminate gaps in health outcomes for all members of our community by providing access to quality, affordable, preventive and primary health care.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Successful completion of in-house training.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:              
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges is required.
  • Current Ohio DEA registration
  • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Ohio.
  • CPR – BLS (basic life support) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices
  • Ability to work with a culturally-diverse staff and patient population
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with HPWO management and medical staff members.
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
  • Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.  In addition, the Dentist shall complete referrals, data collections instruments, and other records or paper work as shall be required from time to time by the Health Center.
  • Educates individuals on the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
  • Supervises dental residents and dental students, as needed.
  • Actively participate in the Dental Quality Improvement Program, and other health center committees as assigned.
  • Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested.
  • Travels when necessary to fulfill HPWO’s needs, and attends meetings as necessary to represent HPWO.
  • Maintains and updates skills and knowledge to appropriate professional levels with continuing education courses and educational materials.
  • Adheres to the standards and policies of the Organizational Privacy/Security and Compliance Programs, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, OIG guidelines, other State and Federal laws). This also includes reporting to the Board of Directors, Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, supervisor or suggestion box, any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
  • Participates in recruitment/retention activities for HPWO as necessary.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily sedentary, demanding sitting, walking, lifting, and bending. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination commonly associated with duties in an office setting will be performed repetitively. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols and utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required. The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
